okay like this is gonna be a mess but i do!
first off, they’re both super shitty at talking about feelings, so it takes literally 600 years for them to get together because neither of them would ever discuss anything like that
maybe they would never even get together, they would just figure this is what it means to be Best Friends, like sharing a bed and hanging out all the time and telling each other everything and making out a little, that’s just Friend Stuff, right?
everyone else is the opposite, while Noah and Ronan keep assuming they’re just BFF’s, everyone else kinda just figures they’re together. Like, it’s 2018, nbd, no one is gonna be difficult about it, it never even comes up in conversation, but everyone thinks they’re weirdly adorable, no one ever though they’d find anything having to do with Ronan adorable, but he’s acually really cute with Noah sometimes (there is nothing more pure than them just standing close together just having a conversation with Ronan’s lips kinda pressed against the top of Noah’s head.
also I just wanted to say about that quote, ‘you gave me so much trouble for keeping you awake and you don’t even need to sleep’, you know the one, that I’m just gonna go ahead and petend that isn’t just about Ronan’s loud music, but 100% also about Ronan dicking around in Noah’s room when he can’t sleep and just being super annoying so he doesn’t have to go to sleep and feels comforted by Noah’s presence and also 100% about them making out and cuddling and Noah going like, 'dude it’s 2 am on a school night I need to go to bed,’ and Ronan being slightly drunk and just nuzzling Noah’s face and saying 'five more minutes,’ every five minutes
so that was what I wanted to say, but then I got thinking about that quote, and it’s actually a really weird quote, because Noah has been telling everyone he’s dead, right? He mentions it whenever anything being-a-ghost related comes up (like cold hands and, I’d assume, not sleeping), so why didn’t he tell Ronan he doesn’t sleep because he’s been dead for seven years? That would make the most sense, right? But instead he told Ronan that he does need sleep. So was Ronan the exception, like the one person he didn’t want to know about him being a ghost? Or did he tell Ronan he needs sleep so that he’d have an excuse to share a bed with Ronan, like if Ronan knew he doesn’t actually sleep he might kick him out, but if Noah walks in and drops into Ronan’s bed and says he’s super tired and just pretends to fall asleep right away, Ronan will let him stay?
I feel like Noah would take that approach with a lot of little kinds of affection that Ronan would normally reject, like he’ll just sneak in quick kisses on Ronan’s cheek or the top of his head when he can, so fast that Ronan doesn’t have time to complain, or he just goes 'my hand is cold’ and shoves it in Ronan’s pocket and holds his hand inside the pocket and starts talking about something else, or he just pretends to fall asleep in Ronan’s bed while Ronan is at a substance party and Ronan can’t be bothered to wake him up so he just pushes into the bed beside him (and by the morning they’re all tangled up)
there’s a pretty big overlap in their taste in music, not just the pop-punk stuff or the loud things Ronan listens to or anything, but also the angsty emo music and pop power ballads they both listen to. Noah finds Taylor Swift on Ronan’s Spotify and doesn’t even make fun of him, just puts it on and sings along because he already knows the lyrics. Also All Star by Smash Mouth is a song that Noah finds hilarious and he keeps showing Ronan all the versions (like the All Star but every other beat is missing or 'star’ is replaced by Gordon Ramsay insults, you know, the good stuff), and it’s also a song that can actually cheer Ronan up even when he’s really angry, like he’ll be fuming over something and Noah will get this look on his face and turn on All Star and Ronan will smile grudgingly and let Noah hug him
also just Noah hugging Ronan and Ronan wrapping his hoodie around him is just an important visual I want you to have right now
Noah hates that Ronan and Blue don’t get along and tries to get them to be friends, but it doesn’t work, the more he tries the more they seem to hate each other, until they’re just exaggeratedly mean to each other to annoy Noah and don’t actually really hate each other anymore. They are really competitive about getting Noah the best birthday/Christmas/Halloween presents each year until one year they team up because they both can’t do this really big thing on their own. It is Noah’s best birthday (his birthday should be on Halloween, right?) because they are finally getting along
Ronan and Noah can get each other so flustered, like they’re both being all cool and one of them goes 'shut up’ and the other goes 'make me’ and there’s this intense moment of eye contact and then they’re just both blushing and scratching their neck and being awkward and instead of kissing really intensely it’s a really soft, awkward kiss
also everyone is pretty normal about their relationship and doesn’t really pay much attention to it, except Adam, who is really surprisingly worried about them being okay, like he’ll spend a full hour talking Ronan down after a fight with Noah and getting him to apologise and he always smiles a little when they’re being affectionate where he can see
