It wasn't supposed to be like this. A simple excursion into the city, no contracts to complete, nothing to do but enjoy Treviso for the beauty that it is. But now, as Rowena looks down from the top of the building she's on, she spots something that she just can't ignore.
A group of Antaam are marching forward with a line of people between them, chained at hand and foot. The sight makes her blood boil - she remembers exactly what it feels like to have her rights stripped away from her, her freedom non existant. The rage boils until she can't take it anymore, climbing deftly down the building and landing on the street.
"Hey!" The Antaam stop their march and turn slowly towards her, waving her off. She counts them quickly, only four for the chain of prisoners. She can take them. She starts with the one closest to her, kicking out his knee and unsheathing her blade before slicing deep into his throat. The blood sprays out as he falls to the ground, and before they can react she throws two more daggers into the bare chest of another Antaam.
The other two swing around, drawing their weapons and stepping closer. Rowena runs towards one and slides under him, using a dagger to slice his inner thigh before standing behind him and stabbing it into his neck. The Last Antaam swings at her head and hits her hard, sending her to the ground in a heap. As he comes towards her with his weapon raised she knicks out and hits him in his sensitive area, causing him to bend over. She stands quickly and wipes some blood from her face before punching him and then driving her dagger deep into his chest. The Antaam howls as she rips it from his chest, stabbing him in the jugular.
As the last Antaam falls she looks back to the chain of slaves, wiping blood from her face once more. She uses her picks to unlock all their chains, letting them flee from the scene as fast as they can. She prepares to leave before she hears a deep voice behind her,
"Good job, kid." Rowena turns to face the speaker to see a dwarf standing while rubbing his wrists, a sly smile on his face that bounces in his golden eyes. Rowena offers him a smile, picking up her thrown daggers and wiping off the blood before resheathing them.
"Don't worry about it. I refuse to abide by slavery." The dwarf laughs and pats her on the shoulder, nodding his head.
"Varric Tethras. You have some skill, if you ever need a job come find me." He walks away from her, leaving her to stand by the empty chains. She sighs and looks up to the sky, knowing Viago is going to have her head for this. But it was worth it for those people to have a chance at a life, so she doesn't mind. She's been through worse, she will accept whatever comes her way.
