I love that Spite and Solas moment. It works really well as part of the Rookanis relationship or as part of Rook's friendship with Lucanis and Spite. Either way, Spite is very angry about what happened to Rook and I think that is really interesting, especially when you consider Spite and the way Spite understands things.
Spite says, “You. hurt Rook. You lie.”
Some of that is Spite being spiteful. HOWEVER, Spite is shown to understand things as a Spirit/Demon (such as him viewing Manfred as Curiosity and thinking they are literally still in the prison). It is pretty new to the mortal realm after all and is still learning. So what does Spite consider hurting Rook?
I think it has to do with the other big Spite line- “You don’t close doors, you open them.”
In Spite’s understanding of things, this would be part of Rook’s purpose. Rook doesn’t close doors, Rook opens them. Solas put Rook in a prison, which Spite does understand. Prisons are full of doors that can’t be opened. Solas put Rook in a position that they cannot open doors and are faced with closed doors which is being denied their purpose. This would hurt a spirit and did hurt Spite as it could not determine its way into an open door.
Even though I love to put it in the context of the Rookanis relationship, I also like the idea that Spite's feelings on it is totally separate from that too. Spite is just genuinely angry that Solas would do something to someone Spite cares about.
