In 1982, Wim Wenders was at the Cannes Film Festival. He asked directors about the future of cinema. He set up a camera and left the room as 12 people including Jean-Luc Godard, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, Steven Spielberg, and Michelangelo Antonioni. That film was called "Room 666."

Forty years later in 2022, director Lubna Playoust asked the same question of a several directors which included Wim, David Cronenberg, Olivier Assayes, and Joachim Trier. This one was called "Room 999." If you love films, this one should not be missed. Will cinema survive the apathy of its audience?

Jean-Luc Godard in Wim Wenders' Room 666. The documentary film poses the question "Is cinema a language about to get lost, an art about to die?" to 16 film directors. The film begins with Godard and continues with the likes of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, Steven Spielberg, and Michelangelo Antonioni. Part of Godard's answer: "Films are made, the images are made when there’s no one looking. That’s what the invisible is, that which we don’t see. That’s what the incredible is, that which we don’t see. And cinema shows you that which we don’t see, the incredible."
