I’ve just gone through this awful process myself. maastrichthousing.nl is a good place to start however rooms are going fast. There is a one-off €35 fee to join the website but it collates rooms available across many different housing/room websites and once you’ve registered an interest in a room you speak directly with the landlord.If you’re only staying for a semester look out for the minimum stay requirement for the room. Some landlords want you to stay for the whole year, some only 3 months or less.From my experience, I tried doing it the traditional way of expressing my interest, trying to arrange a viewing and going from there but honestly the market moves so quickly that in the end I said I’d take the room before being able to see it in person, and consequently the landlord cancelled any arranged viewings with other people and sent me the contract to sign. So my advice is that you kinda have to take a leap of faith based on the information and photos provided before everything gets snapped up. But all is not lost as you’re looking into this a lot earlier than the many many international students who will rock up in August and start desperately looking for a room!Also don’t forget you can afford to live further away from your faculty and town centre than you might imagine if you have a bike! And if you don’t already have one and don’t want to buy one for the short time that you are there, Swap Fiets is a company that seems very popular with students, where you essentially rent a bike for however many months that you need it.

Hi everyone! I know I haven’t been on here for so long, but I’m having a lot of real life stress right now and one of the biggest issues I’m facing is trying to find a place to live in Munich, which seems to be pretty much impossible. 

So since I’m at a point where I’m desperate and doing absolutely everything I can possibly think of, I wanted to ask you guys if you maybe know someone who is planning on renting out a room or a small apartment in Munich. I’d be super thankful for any tips.

What can the student service centre do to help me find a room?

Hi anon,

I’m not saying the SSC will help you find a room, but that they might be able to give you more information than I can, bearing in mind I don’t live in Maastricht yet myself and so I only know of what I used back in early July when there were more rooms available than now. I think it’s worth giving them a call/message, they may have some pointers or can signpost you in the direction of other helpful services :)

I just got accepted to Maastricht and am now looking for a room. I want to be there for inkom but there aren't many rooms left

Hi anon,This is a really difficult time to get a student room, I understand. Most of my messages are on this matter!Try Maastricht Housing and any student housing Facebook groups if you haven’t already explored those avenues. And further, it may be beneficial to call the Student Services Centre (SSC) as they may have some more advice on how and where rooms are still available.As for INKOM, there’s still time to find a room before that starts on the 20th and I hope you manage to. However if you aren’t able to go, my boyfriend attended his introduction week and it was kinda fun for him, but he hasn’t spoken to anyone he met that week since, nor did he feel he really took much from it. That may just be his experience, but I mean to say that if you aren’t able to attend, you probably haven’t missed out on the biggest and best week of your life to date if that’s any comfort to you.I’m crossing all of my fingers and toes for you, as I know how frustrating this process can be. I wish I could be of more help 💙

I actually did get up today, because I had a room viewing. And I'm glad that I did, because I might have hit a jackpot. Very nice people! I was almost 2 hours there. Beautiful appartment, 4 really nice and tolerant roommates and a very nice room in a very good and quiet area and also to a really good price. And we got along really well, just kept talking and talking. They want to tell me until tomorrow. And best of all, there is already a bed built in in the room so I could practically move in there asap. I don't want to get my hopes up too high in case it doesn't work out, but I would SO love to move in there ❤ and they love boardgames as much as I do. Yeah 💪 Am I still asleep and dreaming? It sounds almost too good to be true. I just have to be lucky once!

Nope, today's room isn't gonna work out either. Why do people not read my application? Like at all? I mean why invite a transdude who openly applies as trans to view the room you're renting when you have a problem with trans people? Wtf? :/ And I took the wrong tube on my way back and ended up on the other side of the city before I noticed. Damn. I don't need that. At least with the room tomorrow I know that the people are tolerant. I still try to stay positive. I wouldn't have wanted to move in with intolerant people anyway and it's not my fault when they can't read.
