I can’t stop thinking about these paintings by Antonio Santin. Santin describes his Rug series as “figurative paintings without a figure”. I love how the shapes and shadows make you imagine what lies beneath. (I see a body under one, and possibly a marlin or narwhal under another). It certainly is the Year of the Rooster around here! How perfectly perfect. Perhaps more important though than the irony related to our project ROOST is that it reminds me of a deeply moving exhibit that my daughter and I were able to experience at the Hirshhorn in Washington DC in 2013 featuring Ai Weiwei. Seems apropos as our own country struggles with issues of constitutional rights, that the Rooster I think of is Ai Weiwei’s, a Chinese political dissident. The Dutch word GEZELLIG is everyday language at Indigo. We learned the word from a client while designing their home. I love that there is a word for this feeling of being cozy at home with the people you love in so many languages around the world.
