Something that may have unnoticed by english-speaking anime fans: A new anime debuted yesterday called Rooster Fighter, an action shonen about a talking rooster who fights monsters, which thanks to its protagonist being just that became insanely popular in Latin America BEFORE the anime came out, to the point the popularity of the work down here saved it from cancellation back in Japan, and now that the anime is out, fans have made it trend among the top 10 series in Disney all over the region.
And funny thing, the author became so thankful to his spanish-speaking audience, he began to learn the language, and now actively uses it to interact with fans, even launching promotional videos made in Japan but spoken in spanish!
It’s a fascinating case study in cultural preferences and the breaking of borders thanks to the internet.
