Trigger Warnings: Addiction, mental Health, Body Image
Aurora Jackson made her entry into the world on March 30, 1997. She was born to a family of what was now three children, with two older brothers. One being River, would go on to become the family’s cash cow, though their father also pushed Aurora into the spotlight too. She was a child model, one who was photographed for various fashion and clothing catalogs, something she was pushed into doing until she was a teenager. Hating the spotlight and modeling, Rory started rebelling as a teen, staying out later, crashing on friends’ couches, and even eating less and less. She had heard what happened to her brother River, falling into deep patterns of addiction, whether true or not, by their father. And she promised herself, it wouldn’t happen to her. So she internalized it, becoming more and more of a perfectionist, making sure everything worked out just right.
Then when she turned eighteen, she moved out, once and for all. She went off to college, getting her degree in journalism and working for some news companies back in Los Angeles. She fell in love with work, though at the same time she kept falling for the wrong man. Usually these men were business types, whether someone she worked with, worked for, or worked against. Something about a man in power was what she craved. All the while she was still in contact with her father, always needing his constant approval. He kept feeding her lie upon lie about her brother and the rest of the family.
After finding out what he had been up to, and leaving her mother for another woman, Rory decided to look into some things on her own. To finally break free; or at least try to. This meant looking for her brother, River, where-ever he may be. After finding out about him moving to Oregon, and finding out they had family there, she made the trip, cross country to see for herself if what her father had said were true.
Now that she’s in Kismet Harbor, she’s navigating life with her brother that she hasn’t seen or heard from in over 15 years, plus navigating life with her new-found uncles (and cousins), a family she never knew she had. Learning about the truth from her brother himself, as well as learning about her family is something she’s looking forward to this year. Plus, who knows who else she might meet in town?
Extra musings:
She loves anything to do with the stars and the sky
She loves to dance in the rain
She can sing and was pushed into child pageants because of this (by her father)
She’s a perfectionist, something that she became due to her father and her modeling days
She’s afraid of heights and spiders
Doesn’t know if she has ever been in love
She desperately wants her father’s approval (though she’s learning to break free from this)
