with all the buzz surrounding the murders in the hollowed forest, it was refreshing to do something nice for a friend. aria strolled from her bedroom into the kitchen. she pulled a glass flask, protected by iron rose vines, from the cabinet and dumped the remaining contents of a nearby vodka bottle into the container. she didn’t plan to drink much today, or so she would told herself. years ago, aria wasn't even so much as a social drinker. alcohol was a once a year ordeal. yet now, she couldn't find herself going even a couple of hours without it. there was a great deal of shame that came with excessive indulgence in one's need to numb every harmful feeling. at first, she found herself practically waving it into the eyes of everyone around her, in hopes they would care to say something. now, she hid it away in fear of the judgment, or worse, their nagging over wanting her to stop. that's the thing though, aria had read enough to understand that even if she wanted to, she couldn't. she would need medical attention required to help her ditch the habit and she was not an inch close to affording rehabilitation. so, she drank. she drank when she felt happy, she drank when she felt sad, she drank for the sake of drinking.
circling back to the murders, it didn't ease her anxiety one bit knowing someone was out there taking the lives of the locals. she wondered if she was next, or if someone she knew and loved was next. though a reclusive at heart, aria found herself seeking out company more. she wanted them around to know they were okay, to cling onto them and ensure their safety. that's why she'd called up rosalia. she had met her only a couple of months ago on an online support forum, but they immediately bonded and for once, aria felt like someone truly saw her and not the facade she often portrayed. with rosalia, she could just be herself. the real aria. when rosalia moved to opulence, aria felt like her stomach had grown a sort of luminous entity inside it. her body felt like a warm, sunny day. one where you felt like the sun was a blanket on your skin and you could fall asleep beneath it's shine. life felt worth something again... because of rosalia.
she placed the flask into her vintage leather backpack and grabbed the bottle of pet-safe hair dye. she made her way out the door and over to rosalia's. a couple of minutes later, she arrived at rosalia's and just a few short knocks later, the door swung open. aria beamed with giddiness upon seeing her friend and though not one for physical affection, she found her arms wrapped over rosalia's shoulders in a loving hug. she slid off her friend's shoulder, but held her palm tenderly in her own "i probably should have said hello first." she said, tone light and friendly. "so, i have a sort of surprise for you..."
