13. comforting kiss
Yorund turned around, having Triss pressed with her back against a wall, as a temple guard walked by. The eyes of the witcher narrowed, as the men passed and a dark glare of him was enough to make them leave.
The man looked down at the red haired sorceress, his face carrying a gentle expression. “All good, we’re clear.” A smile rested on his lips, when he wrapped his arms shortly around her so much smaller form and pressed a comforting kiss on her forehead.
“Let’s go.”
A Vampire & A Sorceress
@rosattminnas
The day had started out like any for Corvo, he’d left his fortress, Celnaer Eryas in the early morning to go to the city of Vizima. As he had a few errands to run, which would sound ridiculous, even outrageous for a lord of a fortress to do, to anyone who did not know him well enough and how his castle was run. Sure, he was the leader and the superior vampire in his pack and the one who set the rules, of course he demanded respect, but he did not need his pack members to lick his boots. Corvo treated them with respect and as people, because that’s what they were, his people, his kin. Which was one of the reasons, so many were so loyal to him. His kindness and firm leadership.
Walking along the road with his hood up, shading his face, the Higher Vampire arrived about an hour later at the city gates and nodded to the guardsmen. Both nodding back and greeting him with ‘Good morning Sir’, while Corvo just greeted them back with ‘And to you as well, gentlemen’, before taking down his hood and walking through the gate and into the city.
A few hours past and the lord had been through most of his errands of the day, which included a business deal with a man, whom provided the lower vampires in his pack with bags of fresh blood. As Corvo was not happy with them slaughtering people to get their fill. Another few things he’d done, was visiting an old lady, whom he’d been friends since she was a young adult, helping a few coroners to identify some symptoms on some corpses and stopping by a school, where he gave the teachers some new books and materials. And despite running his errands, he’d had a nagging feeling that someone was following him.
Walking down the streets and across a bridge, his eyes caught a child playing in the railing of the bridge, loose her footing and was about to fall down into the water below, if Corvo had not been quick and caught her in his arms before it had been too late. “Wow there little one..” he said as he put her down, kneeling down to be on eye level with the child. “Don’t you know that it’s dangerous to play on the bridge? Next time, stay on more solid ground when playing, alright?” the vampire gently scolded her, but gave her an apple he’d bought earlier. The child’s eyes lit up and thanked him, while he just nodded and watched her scurry off, before standing up and continued walking, still feeling that someone was following him.
Turning to a murky alley with no one around, he waited in the shadows till the person who’d been following him arrived. A woman..? Quickly Corvo rushed out of the shadows, grabbing her by the throat and up against the wall, baring his fangs at her. “Why have you been following me?” the Higher Vampire growled.
❂ = wiping blood off their face
Yorund looked at the sky for a moment, catching his breath. The Witcher had exhausted himself during this fight with a whole bunch of drowners and ghouls. Even with his special abilities, he wasn’t invincible and a lot of his kind had fallen, because they overestimated themselves.
A touch of cloth on his face let him quickly turn his gaze towards the red haired sorceress, he was accompanying to Novigrad. She wiped the blood off his face.. for a reason, he probably would never know, so Yorund didn’t ask.
A faint smile appeared on his lips. “Thank you.”
”Don’t you…don’t you dare leave me alone again!”
The weight of her words hung over him, and he remembered feeling exactly the same as when he needed to rescue her before the Conclave in Loc Muinne. Fear. It’d welled up inside him now as it had then. Fear of losing her, fear of not being fast enough. Geralt took her into his arms, as much to quell his own restlessness as to shield her from the horrors of the world.
He could hear her heart beating, a ragged rhythm that was slowly returning to normal. The witch hunters lay dead at his feet and all he could think about was how it was better them than her. “I’m never letting you out of my sight again,” Geralt spoke soothingly, his hand rubbing her back.
The witcher pressed his lips to her forehead, happy she was alive, happy she was safe.
