TW discussion of: DeSalvo lol Torture / general toxicity + dehumanization and self harm
Ramble about DeSalvo's ending HCs (sorry if this doesn't make sense we're just vomiting out thoughts)
Maybe its just us but I really imagine DeSalvo treating Evan more so like a dog. Collaring and leashing him, claiming him (motions to the screw ring), removing his means of fighting back (removing his nails, I've also considered DeSalvo removing Evan's canines and keeping them) Yes DeSalvo is VERY happy to have someone indulge with him, but he definitely sees himself above Evan (and Rose- I imagine she's happily serving DeSalvo in his ending, alongside Evan.) and so tries to make sure Evan doesn't surpass him or overpower in any way. Evan is almost a long running experiment for him, seeing how much he can fracture but still obediently endure and do as he says. Evan in this ending is NOT mentally well at all, he loses his wife and daughter, and his only source of companionship is a sadistic torturer/murderer running the entire country and said sadist's other human pet. He doesn't handle it well and develops SH habits that DeSalvo encourages sometimes. Evan is aware of how DeSalvo treats him and accepts it, both out of a developed enjoyment of it + a self punishment that kind of flip flops in his brain.
I also imagine Evan is really attaching to DeSalvo regardless of the things done to him (and also maybe a tiny bit I imagine that because of ship reasons....), I've always interpreted the Admin endings as Evan both succumbing to the immorality of the Ministry and finding the WORST person to fill the void of a guiding role after Caleb's absence/death + James' death.
To follow the course of the ending, I do imagine Evan eventually snapping and just fully losing it/fleeing. Which results in DeSalvo sending out Rose to recapture him to eventually 'put him down' later.
