This is me with the Maurrants
artist formerly known as @davidtennantgenderenvy here! Decided to Street Scene-ify my blog for the future, in anticipation of the video essay I’m currently working on about it. I will get this musical a fandom or die trying. A bit sad to part with this username, as it’s been very good to me. :) I’m definitely not leaving the DT fandom, don’t worry! I just wanted my blog to be a bit more reflective of the projects I’m focused on right now.
I’m technically not allowed to post this on my socials but nobody seems to count tumblr as social media anymore so *whispers* here’s my college’s full production of street scene pleeeeeeaaaae you wanna watch it so BAD it’s so good
@lullabyes22-blog you espesh
Screaming crying throwing UPPPPP at how deliciously angsty this promo photo is (the Frank and Anna pose was my idea teehee)
@lullabyes22-blog the one street scene fan I know on this site
Taped some Rose Maurrant for my Street Scene fans!!!
Something about what good would the moon be just makes me want to cry. I think there’s something so powerful about this girl who hasn’t grown up with much, who has terrible role models for what a relationship is meant to look like, standing in the face of a man who wants to take advantage of her and saying in no uncertain terms “I know it’s not going to be easy for me to find it, but I know I deserve better than you.”
currently losing my fucking mind over how Hades/Persephone and Orpheus/Eurydice coded Frank and Anna and Sam and Rose are. You have the older couple who clearly used to be really in love but now it’s gone sour because the man (bonus he’s a bass-baritone) has gotten super insecure and jealous and obsessed with being The Man/a provider and then his wife everyone sort of thinks of as this ornament but she’s actually super strong willed and vibrant but absolutely falling apart inside and she still wants him so so bad but is also so done with his shit. And the younger couple the guy is very romantic and idealistic and has his head a bit in the clouds while the girl is very practical and wounded/is either implied to have a really bad past with men or in Rose’s case is actively being harassed by two different guys when you meet her. And she’s torn between being in love with this guy who she feels really safe with and also wanting security and independence and not being sure he can give her that
I am so excited to officially announce that I will be releasing my first long form video essay in over two years at the end of this month!!! I've made it no secret as of lately that Street Scene was a life changing show to be a part of, and I've made it my mission to show every musical theatre/opera lover who hasn't seen it just how much they've been missing out. This will be a comprehensive analysis diving deep into the characters, musical themes, historical context, and politics of this tragically under-appreciated masterpiece. I highly recommend the Houston Grand Opera and Madrid Teatro Real proshots on Youtube if you'd like to watch the show before watching the video essay, but in case you can't, the video will be split into spoiler/non spoiler sections. Get some popcorn and a blanket, 'cause it's gonna crack an hour. See you guys then :))))
