For the fandom meme: C, G, and Y.
C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can’t.
Han/Leia. I mean they’re supposed to be this iconic Star Wars couple and I like them individually, but together? Meh. Tbh I was kind of happy to see they’d broken up in TFA, though under the circumstances that’s sort of an assholish thing to say. I do love how they supported each other despite the end of their marriage, and how they struggle with being parents to a mass murderer. I liked them better as old friends than I ever did as lovers, but alas, it was not to last…
G: What was your first fandom?
Harry Potter, summer of 1999. I uploaded my first piece of HP fanfiction to fanfiction.net, the first time I had ever shown my fiction to strangers. It was about Snape because he was the only HP character I really cared about, and it was a Snape/Lily fic because I am that prescient. It was also a giant corny mess because I had just turned 20, okay? I didn’t spend a long time in the fandom, but I’ve been moving from fandom to fandom ever since and HP was what got me started.
Y: A fandom you’re in but have no ships from.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, if I can be considered to be in the fandom. I have no romantic relationships I actively root for, though Darryl and White Josh are a great canon couple and I adore the bisexual representation. I do have a soft spot for Valencia/Nathaniel, but I know it’s a crackship between two people who have never spoken and it’s mostly for my daydream Valencia-centric sequel where V is a badass wedding planner who hires Plimpton & Whitefeather to make a tricky legal situation go away. I want her and Nathaniel to bond over their shared issues with body image and control. It doesn’t necessarily have to be romantic, either.
I do “ship” a ton of friendships from that show, starting of course with Rebecca and Paula, Paula and Sunil, Paula and Darryl, Rebecca-Heather-Valencia… that show was really about friendship, and was best when it focused on friendships. I still adore the fact that a large part of Season 2 revolved around tension between Rebecca and Paula. CXG wasn’t perfect but it did a lot of things right, and that was one of them. That and the music. The music, man.
