The Lie on Lye
Whats the whole Lie on Lye about?? Ever wonder why people say their soap is lye free, but if you know a little bit of science you will know that it isn't soap without some Lye in it. The lye is what makes the lather. The whole key is to know "HOW MUCH LYE IS IN YOUR SOAP'?? Do not be lied to that your soap is 100 percent Lye free if its 100 percent LYE free then it cant really be soap. I love making soap out of olive oil, apricot oil, and wonderful hand pressed essential oils as well as anybody but I would be lying to you if I said that it had zero lye in it. The key is to add just enough to do the job and not be filled with so much that its caustic to the skin. There is a lot of information out there, learn your PH levels too, there are testing papers out there to test your products. Baby soap is one of my favorites to make but it has to be tested as baby skin is still so new and should not have so many harsh products used on them.
