HISTORY OF CHIPPEWA'S WRESTLING

The Chippewa’s are entering their 59th season as a program and have a rich history of success. The Chippewa’s wrestling team was started in 1955 and has been one of the best teams at Central Michigan since being created. They joined the Mid America Conference in 1972 and have been theirs since. When now head coach, Tom Borrelli, arrived in 1992 the Chippewa’s have been one of the best teams in the MAC. From 1999-2012 the Chippewa’s have one the regular season conference 12 times along with winning the Conference Championships 13 times.

The Chippewa’s have had over 53 All-Americans in their existence. They have also had two individual NCAA national champions in Casey Cunningham(1999) and John Rollins(1959 and 1961). The team has also claimed three NCAA all-academic team members in Mark DiSalvo(2006), Wynn Michalak(2008), and Joe Roth(2013).
