Backyard Healing: Rose Oil

Rose Oil Recipe

Ingredients

Roses (dried is best due to fresh molding easier. If fresh, leave out to dry for two days)

Grapeseed oil

Glass jar

Method

Cold Maceration:

Time: 3-4 weeks

Glass jar

Refrigerator

Carrier oil and roses

Place herbs in a glass jar and fill it with carrier oil. Leave the jar in a cold dry place for 3-4 weeks. Filter out the petals for the pure oil with herbaceous substances. Store in a dark place.

Double Boiler Method

Time: 5-6 hours

Glass jar

Double boiler

Carrier oil and two batches of roses

Fill jar with herbs and carrier oil, place in a double boiler and bring to slow simmer. Heat and keep on a low for a long simmer time of 5-6 hours. Remove oil, fill it with the second batch of petals, and repeat the process as many times until the oil takes on the color and scent. Depending on the rose it can be 3x, 5x, to 8x. Store in a dark place.
