A thing for @orihharas !! Their character Rosette is featured here with her gf Marie! This takes place during last session when a certain painting came up. Marie was pretty scared to say the least. But her gf right there to help the entire time.
Breathe. The word was so easy to think about, to say, but to put it into practice was so difficult. All of the air had fled from Marie’s lungs, and her eyes would not stray from the painting before her. How had this been here? Was this because of her? Ecthelion had warned them that memories bleed into the foundation in this temple, especially bad ones. But Marie could not remember this. Her vision swam as a sharp pain slammed into her skull but she couldn’t walk away. This had to have been from earlier when she had seen that horrible creature rise from the fog. The thing that had Makani’s voice. Why did it have her maman’s voice?
Finally Marie’s gaze was pulled away from the painting when there was a soft touch to the inside of her palm. In the moments she had been occupied, Rosette had approached her and was reaching very tentatively for Marie. Fathomless eyes caught her attention, full of concern and worry. Sharp tipped fingers glanced off of Marie’s prayer beads and wove together with her own. The weight in Marie’s chest lessened at the warmth, if only a little bit.
“Are you alright?”, Rosette’s voice was soft, much too gentle for how she was normally.
“I will be, I’m just...shaken a bit is all. There shouldn’t be anything here like this, I’ve never met Shar --that I can remember at least. I do have gaps in my memory”
“Whatever is going on we’ll figure it out. It’s not like we don’t have experience in figuring out memories”
“But mine are different from Davorin’s, I’m not sure mine even will come back. I’ve tried for so long to get them to trigger again. It’s...disconcerting”
There was a squeeze of Marie’s fingers at her words and Rosette looked up at her with more gentleness than she thought was possible.
“We’re in this together alright? I won’t rest until we at least find one of them”
“You are awfully stubborn”, Marie replied, trying her best to smile but she knew she was falling short. Even so her girlfriend smiled so wide and sweetly that it was hard not to feel a little more warmth crawl it’s way back into her body.
But only just so.
Still the thoughts persisted as she looked down at Rosette. They bounced off the inside of her skull and made it perilously hard to breathe once more. What if they never did find out? What if everything was just one big mystery she would never truly unravel? That in of itself was absolutely terrifying. There were so many people, so many gods that seemed to know about her and she had no memory of ever knowing them. Why couldn’t she actually be for certain for once? All she had ever wanted in her life was to be able to protect those she cared about and yet this was getting in the way. What if she had a bigger role in this than she had realized?
The words swirling inside of her mind told her to look back at the painting, to dwell on it even further and panic until she could no longer stand it. But she knew better than that. It wouldn’t do any good to let Shar win, much less anything else. So, instead she wrapped her arms around Rosette and buried her face into her shoulder. Another wave of comfort washed over Marie as she breathed in the scent of pine needles and the entirety of a rose bush. Her girlfriends arm’s wrapped around her as they stood there in front of the painting together, warm and silent.
For once in a long time Marie felt safe. She didn’t have to run to the next hiding spot or cower in a dark corner. Safety was right here with her, and she was never going to let it go. Even if things looked bleak and confusing right now, all she needed was to look right next to her. Because her home was already right where she was.
In the dark, Marie for once didn’t feel exposed or vulnerable. She felt safe and secure, Rosette sitting in her lap with her tail wrapped loosely about one of the monks arms. Never in all of her years had Marie experienced such a warmth that was this comforting and gentle. It didn’t do much for her nervousness but the embarrassment had melted away at the very least. There was no judgement here. Any affections she wanted to give would be welcome.
Ever so slowly Marie bowed her head towards Rosette’s, first tucking some hair behind the tieflings pointed ear. A smile alighted upon her lips as she felt her girlfriend shift a bit and relax. She truly was adorable. Mariel leaned even more forward to close in the distance between them, lips close enough to touch.
“Can I?”
“Gods, please”
With some shyness still Marie planted a chaste kiss against Rosette’s lips and relaxed as Rosette nervously returned it. They just needed some time to themselves to figure it all out. But for now, these small kisses were all the shadar kai needed to know she was in the right place. With the right person.
Marie is vaguely concerned about Rosette sometimes because of the armor she wears. Local Monk doesn’t want her girlfriend to get badly hurt in battle, but she does love her aesthetic choice.
