Seeking Guidance [Chase & Candace]
@rosieathe
It’s not the easiest decision in the world to make, but Candace has had the better part of the day to try to work herself up to taking the plunge. There are many reasons for her to be a little hesitant to pop over next door to the Brass Bar, after all. Sometimes it’s really noisy and rowdy; that much she can tell even from the road, without actually going inside. It’s also where Selena works, and sprites, does Candace have a difficult time looking directly at Selena.
It’s also where Chase happens to work, and Candace knows full well that trying to bother him can sometimes be a lost cause. She’s always understood those who wanted to be left alone— she relates to them, she supposes, even though she’s not supposed to say that. But she’s also spent a lot of time with Yolanda, tagging along with her grandma Shelly and sitting in with the old ladies in town as they gather for tea, knitting quietly as she listens to them trade gossip - and praise their grandkids. She’s heard more times than she can count how good Chase is at what he does.
Maybe if she catches him before his shift starts and things aren’t too busy, he won’t be too mad at her for bugging him? Well, she can hope for the best. Nothing ventured nothing gained— and she can simply see herself out if he really doesn’t feel like answering her question. Turning and running away has never failed to be a solution for her before, she chides herself.
Then banishes the self-reproach. Not helping. Especially not in this moment, as she lets herself in through the Brass Bar’s front door.
She takes a seat at the bar beside the grill, trying to make herself as small as possible. She waits for him to notice her, perhaps to offer to take her order— finding that even the courage that brought her to this point still wasn’t quite enough to get her voice to not catch in her throat. And as she waits, she folds and unfolds the scribbled down recipe she’d brought with her, smoothing it out on the bar-top in front of her and folding it back up nervously again.
