Twitter: @/CynicalRosier A couple days after his mother passed Evan still wondered the halls at night. Restless, unable to sleep... Having nightmare after nightmare of his mothers passing. The images and sounds were still so vivid in his mind, and other times he could swear he could still feel her convulsing in his lap. Having climbed out of bed for the fourth night that week, he pulled a jumper over his small chest and smoothed it down. This one was always her favorite on him, and he wanted to be sure it lasted. Padding out of his room and into the empty dark hallway, he dragged his finger tips slowly along the wall as he walked, his eyes looking over every painting, and every statue as he passed. This corridor seemed to be full of self portraits of his ancestors dating back to the first Rosier's, and at the end of the corridor was a portrait of his father and mother. Evan sat down on the floor, leaning back against the wall as he looked up at the painting. She was still as he remembered her. Full of love, and life.. Her smile was bright enough to fill a room. His father, stoic as ever. Hard jaw line and piercing eyes that would strike fear into any man. He sat there, staring up at the portrait for a long time. Simply wishing that his mum would come back to him. That she would come down the corridor and scoop him up, carrying him back to bed, though he new that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. So finally he pushed himself up off of the floor and continued to wander in the darkness, and somehow he made his way to his fathers study. He had been told time and time again to never enter without permission. But he was curious and he was sure his father was asleep, so he pushed through the dark wooden doors and stopped to marvel at how different the room looked at night. All the books on the shelves darkened by shadows... But the bright moon flooded into the room, lighting up his fathers desk. Making his way over he pulled himself up into the chair and examined the contents on the large desk. Stacks of papers from the ministry, a recently used scotch glass, and some of the remnants were still in the bottom. Quills and ink on one side, but there was something on the desk that caught his eye. It was beautiful. Reaching out he took hold of the hard metal mask and sat back in the chair with it in his lap. He ran his fingers over the cool exterior and the intricate metal detailing before holding it up to his own face, peering out of the eye holes, when his father walked into the study. "Evan, what are you doing in here?" Evan quickly set down the mask and looked up at his father. "Nothing Sir... I was.. I was just curious." William had made it to Evan in a few long strides and had picked up his mask in his hands. "Looking at this?" "Yes sir." The boy nodded slowly in response, swallowing thickly. "Do you know what this is?" Shaking his head in reply. "No sir." He handed the mask down to Evan and held out his hand. "Well come on then, I'll tell you the story as we walk you back to bed." Surprised, that his father wasn't mad at him for not only being in his office, but also touching his things, he hesitated before taking the mask back in his hand, using the other to grab his fathers, slipping off the seat and follows along after him out of the study and into the dark corridors. "That mask, is one of few others. It belongs to a secret order called the Knights of Walpurgis. Knights who were hand picked by The Dark Lord Voldemort himself. You see, Voldemort has this... Idea. He's not the only one however, many others share his belief, he is just the first to really take action. He wants to rid the world of, half bloods, mud bloods, and muggles alike. And of course those of Pureblood who have betrayed the Pureblood values... We call them blood traitors Evan." His father looked down at him to make sure he was still listening, and his eyes were glued on him. His hand clutching the metal mask. "The Knights are doing great and noble work for the wizarding world. And they will be praised for it one day." They had finally reached Evan's room and his father took the mask from his hand and set it standing up right on his nightstand before lifting him up and setting him in bed, pulling the blankets up to tuck him in. And Evan had finally found his voice. "Do you think... That maybe one day, I could be like you? And be a knight?" Evan could visibly see his father.... Smile? Was that what he really saw? A smile? "One day. One day I will help you learn what it takes to be a knight. And one day you will get a mask like this, all your own.. Now, get some rest Evan. We have a big day tomorrow, burying your mother..." His hand ruffled Evan's hair, and he walked out of the room. Evan stared at the mask on his bed side table for longer than he remembered before his eyes slowly closed from exhaustion, and he drifted back into the land of sleep.
