Pressure Now on Russia in Nations League?
We all know that famous phrase: “credit where credit is due”. And the Russian national team definitely deserves credit for getting to the Quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Russia got out of the group without much problems except for the hiccup against Uruguay. But then being able to get past Spain in a penalty shootout will always be in Russian football folklore.
Looking back, I sure am a little mad at myself for not booking my flight to leave Russia the next day.
But oh well, who am I to complain here?
Anyway, staying on topic. It was heartbreaking for the hosts to barely lose to Croatia on penalties, but the Russian national team surprised many at the World Cup.
But what now? What can we expect from Russia when UEFA Nations League begins in September?
Russia is grouped with Turkey and Sweden in Group 2 of League B. The first test for Russia will take place against Turkey away from home on 7 September.

Online bookmaker 10Bet has the latest odds and currently Turkey is slightly favored with 2.35 odds while Russia 2.90 odds.
I think this game is a tossup in terms of which team is favored to win but the match will be played in Turkey.
But the main issue here is will we see Russia continue its good form or will things go back to normal because Russia will no longer be playing at home with support of the crowd?
We can do a lot of wondering leading up to the match but some of the other interesting bets involve own-goals and whether or not either team will get off to a fast start.
Currently the payout is 6.95 if an own-goal is scored between Russia and Turkey and I think this is a fun wager because we definitely saw our fair share of own-goals in the World Cup.
Or if you feel that a goal will be scored in the opening fifteen minutes, the payout is 3.50
Russia will be playing with a lot of confidence but we all know that the Turkish roster is better on paper.
