Morgan Larson is the human equivalent of lightening in bottle.
Larson's internal speed seems to be set higher than most. She is constant motion with a steady smile and a ready laugh. One can only imagine how far ahead her mind is working.
The spunky 2007 Oconomowoc High School grad is following the life plan she mapped out long ago, and is seeing those long-held dreams come to fruition.
Armed with a newly minted degree in dance from University of Arizona in 2011, Larson wasted no time in setting those plans in motion.
From stage and television to films and music videos, Larson is making her mark.
The petite Oconomowoc native was one of eight dancers selected for "Teen Beach Movie" which premiered on the Disney Channel last week. According to published reports the film drew 8.4 million viewers, making it the fifth-highest rated made for TV Disney movie of all time.
Promoting the film was a thrill for Larson, who appeared on "The View" and "Good Morning America" for the movie.
"I'm just freaking out all the time. It's weird for me, we filmed it like 1 ½ years ago. It's just magical again. It was magical the first time and now we're all coming back together to promote it," she said.
That role is not the first break for the dancer, who has kept a hectic schedule since finishing school.
"I graduated in 2011 and the day after I did a small 28-day tour in China with a dance company. We did 17 cities performing traditional American dances like ballet, contemporary, hip hop and ballroom and that was really cool. It was a transition out of University of Arizona," she said.
"Right after that I flew out to LA to audition for an agency. I got accepted and moved to LA in August. I just kept following my life plan. Graduate college, check; get an agent, check; move to LA, check. I'm like, OK this is good," she said with a laugh.
Larson is familiar with the process. In 2007 and 2009, she was a contestant on the prime time dance show, "So You Think You Can Dance" (SYTYCD).
In a full-circle moment, Larson auditioned, and was hired, as a dancer/actress in "A Snow White Christmas with Neil Patrick Harris" starring Ariana Grande, with Lythgoe Productions. Fans of SYTYCD will recognize the name; Nigel Lythgoe is the executive producer and a regular judge on the popular show.
"A week later I went home for Christmas and the following week, I moved into my first apartment. A day later I auditioned for 'Teen Beach Movie' and got it. Then I went to Puerto Rico for two months," Larson said.
Eight dancers were selected for the movie.
"We rehearsed in LA for three weeks and went to Puerto Rico and rehearsed for two and a half weeks and the rest was filming on the hot, hot, hot sand — emphasis on hot," she said.
She returned home in early April.
"The coolest part was that the dancers were so heavily involved in every aspect of the film and were there the longest. It was kind of rare because there were so many dance numbers," she explained.
Larson said sometimes it is hard to believe that she is finally living her dream.
"It was life-changing. You go to school and study for this and then you're beginning to do what you always wanted to do and it was in this paradise spot and I am on a beach dancing my life away. You don't picture that. You wish it and it came true," she said.
For Larson, the movie was also educational.
"It was so moving for me as a dancer and a choreographer. Everything is so different on camera. It made me a smarter dancer and performer. I wasn't only dancing, I had to act and sing," she explained.
Another highlight of her fledgling career included being the soloist dancer in "Killin' Tonight" music video for Nick Hissom working alongside Steven Wynn, Kenny Ortega, choreographer Christopher Scott and actress/ dancer Jessica Keller.
Kenny Ortega directed Michael Jackson's This is It tour and the High School Musicals.
Other roles Larson has had included dancing in Disney Channel's "Austin and Ally and Shake It Up," for Nickelodeon Teen Halo Awards 2012 and for a Korean pop concert.
"My best friend danced for Psy and made connections there and was asked to bring in dancers for K-Pop Valentine Concert with K-Will. He's a Korean artist. My friend coordinated it. It was cool, we got to ask all our friends to be back-up dancers," Larson said.
Most recently she was a model/dancer in a Reebok Fashion Show with actress Miranda Kerr.
"My main focus is film. Obviously, I love dancing in movies, but I also love choreographing and editing. I just fell in love with film, and once you have that bug ... I'm like a glowing, lightning bug," Larson said.
In addition to family ties, Larson stays connected to her home state by working with her old dance studio in Waukesha.
"I'm in Wisconsin a lot choreographing and teaching at Accent on Dance. I'll come back for Master Class and choreograph their routines for competition season.
"That to me is so rewarding and such an incredible experience to continue. They are a huge part of my journey. There are so many people who got me to this point and I think about them every single day. The reason I am the person I am today is because of my home state," she said.
If it sounds like a lot on her plate, Larson would not have it any other way.
"I've always liked having my mind work a lot harder than just one role. I don't do one thing, I do 50. I don't take a moment to breathe until I crash. I've always had a really active mind, it's non-stop," she explained.
"The busier you are, the better you are. You don't have time to freak out. You're on to the next thing," Larson pointed out.
"I am having fun. There are definitely periods I go through of doubt and struggle and what am I doing and is this worth it — all the time. Sometimes you just have to push that all down and pull up. That's my life motto: pull up. Pull up and dream big," she added.
