do you have any tips for rotting gore? Like, dead carcases, bones n all.
Hello, hello!! I’ll be totally honest, and admit that rot isn’t as in my wheelhouse, as fresh gore, but! Here’s some notes!
If you have the stomach for it, I’d highly recommend looking up “decaying bodies” or just “stages of decay” as that’s what I was taught to reference, in SFX for film :]
But zombie makeup / Walking dead zombies is a good place to get colour references too! :D
The main colour components I use for decay, or bloated flesh, are: light yellow, light green, light browns, and light purples. Steer clear of pinks and reds as that’ll look too lively! 💚 Organs lose saturation, as they begin to decay, so keep grey tones, and very mild colours in mind. Instead of a fresh kill wet look, with tons of highlights, we’re gonna focus on things lookin a little drier, especially the blood! Old blood either gets brown or super dark. For a dried blood look, you can punch holes in the blood patch with an eraser tool!
Now- highlights can still be used- but instead of over the surface of guts, try and focus the shine in curves, or, in areas where maggots and stuff has got to it. Rot kinda causes grease vs the natural wetness of something pulled out of ya 👍🏻 :]
