Portugal - Rota Vicentina Nog een klein stukje, dan vind ik vast een mooi plekje. De open vlaktes van de zee en stranden, de hoge kale kliffen en de authentieke dorpjes maakten het zoeken naar een goede wildkampeerplek soms uitdagend. Ik was echter al voorbij het einde van mijn Latijn, de veel te zwaar bepakte rugzak striemde mijn huid en de budget wandelschoenen brachten me naast de gewenste kilometers ook heel veel blaren. Hikelight was toen nog niet zo'n ding en als wel, dan had ik er nog geen budget voor en bovendien had ik nog geen benul van de noodzaak. De authentieke vissers en boeren die mijn pad kruisten schudden allen hun hoofd. "Deze Fisherman's Trail is niet voor zo'n rugzak", bevestigden ze stuk voor stuk mijn eigen ervaring. De avondschemer begon zich al in te zetten en ik besloot -enigszins vertoornd- de route te verlaten en het talud te beklimmen. Het leek aanvankelijk nog op een olifantenpaadje, maar de begroeiing had het na enkele meters duidelijk teruggewonnen. Teruggaan, naar waar ik de mogelijkheden tot een goede slaapplek al tot in de verste verte had afgeschuimd, zat niet meer in mijn mentale noch fysieke mogelijkheden. En dus zette ik mijn tent op.
