I was so entranced by the lore that I forgot Bunny and Jack are gonna kiss at some point. How did you come up with all the lore it's incredible!!
I really loved Warrior Cats as a kid 😭
No but really I found the wiki page after I re-watched the movie, read a ton of fanfiction and then read the books. When I read the books there were so many hidden little gems of lore that Bill Joyce just casually threw in there and then moved on— like what do you mean bunny reshaped the earth Bill. What do you mean— and I wanted to expand more on it!
I read one fic that went through Bunny’s past, mostly during the war and on Earth after, and it was unfinished and it left me like with this hole in my chest I needed to fill.
So I thought about what his world might be like and annotated Bunny’s book and found my favorite parts and pieces. I changed a bit (like the fact Pookas aren’t affectionate and have short childhoods- booooo) but I really loved the shapeshifting bit, the chocolate and spring and time focus. I read so many fics where he went by Aster and kinda ran wild with the idea that their culture was surrounded with flowers.
I also was obsessed with space. I learned about Kepler 16B the planet with two suns and I went through a ton of YouTube videos seeing how life would survive there and that there would be TWO shadows. (In the world of pitch black I mean COME ON its perfect) and I developed the years based on that (shorter years, a solar exclipse every five days and thought about how that would shape the culture (and a little bit the environment but mostly went full Warrior Cats on the biomes.
But I also looked up the different kinds of rabbits in different biomes mapped out which looks like a good mix of book and movie bunny. His book self looked very hare grasslands dry heat climate but his movie self is verrrry fluffy and gray and looks more cold climate so I made him a hybrid and thought about pooka racism he might encounter pfftttt.
I was reading Mother Natures story and that honestly was my favorite part out of the whole series because of the space stuff. And when they talked about walking talking constellations I looked up whether there was a rabbit constellation (Lepus) and what the myth was. Then in the books Typhan has weather powers so I thought it’d be cool if each constellation had their own magic and I debated giving Lepus spring adjacent powers but learning her myth was tied to running from Orions Dogs and remembering that Bunny was a Gaurdian of time in the books led me to making her a constellation of time and had her run through time to safety. And then I thought that would make sense for her people to age so very slowly like Bunny does in the books. So then I thought it would be super fun to make every alien species have a constellation they are tied to and also how angsty would be be for Bunny to be able to see his god on earth bc time travel and light travel? too good to pass up.
As for Jack and the Fundamental’s, I don’t want to spoil anything but essentially I was thinking up how I’d change Jacks origin form the books and how on earth they’d even be remotely similar (besides the fact they are both boys with staffs that laugh) I went down another science rabbit hole and found a really cool video showing a chemical reaction of fire (plus some chemicals) FREEZING something forming ice instead of fire. And that led me to making stars that could embody things like COLD. And there were seven or eight (can’t remember) other nightlights in the books so I tried to break down fundamental aspects of what made up space. Cold, dark, a vaccum, but also light, heat matter. I bounced around the idea of friction but what’s friction if not beginning and what makes up matter and I thought about gravity and zero gravity and also the great attractor we’re all being drawn toward and the fact that the universe is expanding forever. Eventually I narrowed it down to a couple pairs: light, dark, cold, heat, contracting, expanding, weight, weightlessness, beginning and ending.
I also read a great book at the time that essentially said creation stories tell you everything you need to know about a culture so I HAD to make a creation story for the universe.
And then it only made sense for darkness to create dream pirates whose sole existence in the books is to feast of dreams and light and I wondered what that would be like to actually never be full to always hunger for something you can’t product on your own and could they ever have enough light? What would happen if they had enough of it? What would happen if they were given dreams? And then I exploded when I thought about Lunars being the product of creators of darkness getting enough dreams and light to sustain themselves. It was the final puzzle piece really to everything- and I still have lots more lore upcoming in new chapters I can’t wait to share!!
Sorry I kinda got carried away but thanks for the ask!!! it was a fun trip down memory lane.
