i've said it before but the dynamic between blaze and donnell has only reinforced my thoughts - having a parent character play a significant part in the plot of a novel always adds such an interesting dynamic, especially when the child is a second-in-command or a significant supporter to their parent, and their parent has full faith in their abilities.

It reminds me of how much i loved this same set-up in the queen's resistance, between brienna and her adopted dad, but also to an extent brienna and her bio dad.

wow, donnell has rapidly propelled himself up my favourite characters list, next to jarra, jaxon, and raven.

i'm in tears thinking about just how much he loved earth, and how that love has echoed down the generations to shine so brightly through jarra.

oh shit, i had a feeling scavenger alliance was heading towards a tad/blaze romance, but finding out he's a thaddeus wallum-crane confirms it, since i do remember reading in one of the extras (the drago sequence maybe?) that the wallum-cranes were in the tell family tree 🤔 it's interesting - i feel like the tad/blaze relationship has been building a lot more naturally than any of the other romances i've seen so far by janet edwards. Fian/jarra and lucas/amber both happened pretty abruptly. I haven't been keeping up with jaxon/glori so idk how their story is shaping up

i feel like im pretentious about repression or whatever like oh they can identify and name their repressed desires thats like the boring level one repression wheres the level of repression where they cant even begin to contemplate their own desires because contemplating them is a slippery slope to actually having desires which is a slippery slope to everything

I do think it's kinda hilarious that there's an established pattern in the tell/blaze family that younger sisters always have fraught relationships with their older brothers.

Seamus betrayed Donnell and abandoned Blaze soon after they lost their mother

Jaxon stopped their parents from claiming custody of jarra jr and caused her to be raised as a ward of hospital earth

And while we don't know much about the relationship between jarra sr and draco, we can extrapolate that there must have been some kind of friction between them given that jarra was a model military officer while draco was....very much not.

I wonder if drago's gonna fall victim to this pattern with dracia and/or persephone 😂

i'm guessing blaze was the one that started the blaze clan. I'm surious to see how she ends up in beta sector.

Also, are the blaze clan gentes maiores as well, or is it just the tell clan? The only thing i can remember about them rn is that they're a cvilian clan (as opposed to military), and specialise in....science? I think? Or portal technology. We haven't heard much about them in the rest of the extended universe

I don’t think they are? Not sure though. I feel like the Tell clan are gentes maiores because of Tellon Blaze, mainly because of the line in Earth Flight “we gave him a majestic clan hall on Zeus” from one of the Betan newsies I think. That implied to me that there was a significant status gain from the Blaze clan to the Tell clan. Though again, I’m still not certain.

Ohh that's a good point! Also, now that I think about it the nobility of a planet is usually the families of the first colonists, and iirc zeus was one of the first planets in beta sector to be colonised. So there's no way blaze would be nobility there.

calling it now, i feel like cage had something to do with seamus' 'betrayal'. Everyone had to have known donnell would want to make seamus his deputy, so cage probably found a way to get rid of his competition.

I don't think seamus actually betrayed donnell. If only because i can't imagine him abandoning blaze

actually tbh pregnancy as a concept would not suck so much in fiction if women were allowed to be mothers and also fully fleshed out characters outside of that role. a lot of men in media get to be fully fleshed out characters even if they have children; the mentor role is infamous - but women don't particularly get to occupy the same three dimensionality men do when it comes to guiding children. which is a shame because i find stories about the interiority of mothers or women authority figures to be some of the most fascinating. but in the eyes of society, mothers are demanded to be perfect in a way fathers aren't, so having a flawed woman mentor figure is much rarer in media.

its difficult having a favorite character who you have absolutely no attraction to but a lot of other people do. i love him. not like that. i dont even like him i hate him actually. hes just really important to me. Not like that. he lives in my brain. No not like that. hes just there and i think about him a lot. hes disgusting and i hate him. hes very fascinating to me. i understand him. hes not sexy at all though. a lot of people say that and i disagree but to each their own. hes my favorite and i want to kill him
