its the fact that we would have been satisfied with so little that really makes me laugh. because had the network left cas in the finale, had we gotten like even a 30 second scene of him greeting dean in heaven or whatever, even if left comfortably ambiguous enough for the b*bros, the level of descent post finale would never have reached this volume. its not just about a ship. there were multiple things wrong with that ending, specifically dean being silenced which i doubt would have been rectified even with the above edition. but ships do get more attention and go more viral than others parts of the story and had they not cut that out so completely, had they not censored it, it would have been really hard to build up this amount of rallying righteous anger and momentum from the fanbase

anyways it makes me laugh at the cw i hope they’re having a terrible weekend

All this talk about seasons finales had me realize that there were very few that I truly dislike and I'm okay with a lot endings others deemed bad- True Blood for example. I I think the only people who liked it were myself (a casual fan) and my sibling (a huge fan) because in our view, these characters finally got their crap together. Supernatural though? It was bad. Just so bad.

Yeah, I mean endings are hard, that is known across all levels of media. Some I’ve enjoyed (Friends, Dawson’s Creek, Schitt’s Creek) and others I’ve had serious issues with (HIMYM, GoT). But SPN hits incredibly different because its so obvious that this ending was not the one originally intended and that the writers hated writing it. Like, with HIMYM, the original showrunners came in and forced their pre-planned ending on the current group of writers, it sucked but it was hardly network interference, more along the lines of “oops, sorry we didn’t tell you where you needed to be guiding this show for the last several years, maybe that would have helped the narrative make any kind of sense.” GoT we all know how D&D just got sick of the show and wanted it over, you could tell the whole thing was going south for about two seasons. 

Yet SPN is a show that continued to exist for 15 years BECAUSE of the amount of love its cast, crew, and fans have for it. Yet rather than celebrate that legacy, the network stepped in and summarily ruined storylines and character arcs because they thought it’d make them more money. 15 years of found family were erased by an uncaring network. 4 years of Dabb’s carefully plotted work as showrunner was erased by an uncaring network. An actor who has been around for 12 years was removed from the final episodes by an uncaring network. A deaf character was erased by an uncaring network. Both main character’s storylines were absolutely ruined by an uncaring network who gutted whatever that final script was into an inch of its life until none of the series’ trademark heart remained. You’re right, SPN’s finale was just bad and it leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth and none of us have been able to move past it because its so adverse to everything s15 promised up until those final two episodes. 

And those promises were broken by the network.

That's the other thing I wonder about- if the show was about found Family, why wasn't that allowed in? Heck, they could have shown Sam fostering kids, Dean with their family in heaven, maybe cameos of Jack and Cas, have some lines about Jody and the girls. You wanna focus on Dean and Sam, okay, but they're not alone anymore.

that’s exactly where the cw screwed up, they made the network interference so obvious that it became about more than the ships (destiel and saileen) getting shafted, rather the entirety of the show’s premise- at least its premise since bobby was introduced in 1x23 and the boy’s family began to expand- was shaken to its core causing the majority of viewers to pause and go “um, what did i just watch? because it wasn’t the same story i was being told two episodes ago.” its just so obvious that someone who doesn’t closely watch the show stepped in and said, “none of this other nonsense, take this show back to what it was in the pilot with just sam and dean and not only that make sure its just MC sam since you know we DO have walker coming up and i mean i guess you guys can have a bobby cameo since he’s a father figure and neither gay nor deaf nor a god whose appearance would blow open too many plotholes we created after declining draft after draft after draft of dabb’s original ending”

I’m not saying you should get on each member of your family’s Netflix profiles and give a thumbs down to every single cw show, but that act could be very cathartic while ensuring those shows don’t get recommended to or watched by people less aware of the cw’s fucked up fuckery
