Designer Chat is a series created to highlight brands/designers that I personally believe are pushing the envelope aesthetically and with the vision they have for their respective brands. Introduce yourself and tell us, what is the ethos of Roubleau? ROUBLEAU is a sophisticated yet casual unisex children brand designed for quality and durability. What experience if any did you bring to the table and explain how that helped or hindered the process of launching a new kidswear brand? Energy, expression and abundance. I am too a relatable parent. The time has come for parents to covet the clothing of their children!
What was your inspiration behind this debut collection? Raising a soon to be six year old boy, in which is a sucker for comfort was the ultimate inspiration behind ROUBLEAU. Are you influenced any by what goes down the runways of women's and mens fashion? I am influenced by the simplicity that Alexander Wang brings to the runway.
The vibe of the line is pretty minimal from the styling to the color palette, will this be a mainstay in future collections? The embroidered T-Shirts will be a mainstay. This multi-seasonal line is good for all weather. Each unique piece can be dressed up or down and can withstand a child’s daily movements and activities. Each top is composed of distressed finishes. The clothing comes to life the more it is washed and played in. The subtle and tasteful branding of each piece states that the wearer is in the loving care of fashion-conscious parents.
The Raw Quilted Denim are my favorite piece from the collection, can you explain the design process of the jeans? Attention to detail was invested in creating the raw quilted denim with a heavyweight construction. The raw quilted denim are also my favorite piece from #RoubleauWasHere. The raw quilted denim were in fact an absolute process and I laugh as I explain. I will sum up the process for you. Essentially, the raw denim is first cut into pieces and quilted back together using a black double seam. Magnetically, a slim fit garment appears from the constructed denim. What major piece of advice would you give to someone that is interested in starting a kids line? A child’s response and reaction to anything you produce should mean the most to you.
One trend in kids fashion that you wish would go away and never come back? Tutu’s outside of a ballet class and anything involving a character. #RoubleauWasHere
