Commander Lyle Rourke x Thatch!Reader || Drabble
Plot: The scene where Milo and Kida come up from swimming and find Rourke and the others waiting- with you (Milo's twin) held back by Vinny and Helga. Still not sire whether this makes a n y sense.
Basically Rourke and you had been in a sexual relationship before this and he still really likes you but is dissapointed in your reaction to his whole... mercenary-ness...
Maybe there will be a part 2 where Rourke shows you properly how disappointed he is in you, specifically.
Warnings: Sexual references, violence
Milo breaks the surface of the water and gulps in deep breaths of air, before noticing us. His eyes immediately find me, a flicker of confusion igniting in them before slipping to Rourke as the bastard leans forward onto the balls of his feet, smug. "You have a nice swim?"
My brother's gaze slips over the lot of us - them, - now, before squeezing his nose of some water and taking hold of the ledge, pushing his glasses up. Not quite comprehending what's happening. "Hey, guys, what's going on?" He raises an eyebrow, innocently curious. "What's uh, what's with all the guns? And uh, the cloth in Y/N's mouth?" His eyes shift to Rourke, who's lips I can imagine quirking up in an obnoxious smirk. A growl slips from me as I struggle weakly against Vinny's hand wrapped tightly around my upper arm- he doesn't look at me.
Good. The coward.
I would try to fight against them harder, but Helga already made it clear to me earlier that if I didn't stop that then... well, I'm disposable. Unlike Milo.
And while I don't think Rourke will kill me, too interested in shoving his awful victory in my face- she definitely will.
I watch understanding dawn on Milo's face, the same as its been since he figured out basic multiplication a year before the rest of our class, and feel a wave of guilt slip over me. This is our fault, and I can be mad and betrayed all I like but I still have to take some responsibility. "I am such an idiot."
We lead them here.
I now they're going to destroy this place- suck it for all its worth and abandon it truly, this time. Take away everything beautiful and amazing about it and sell it for a couple bucks.
I flash Vinny a vicious glare, but he still refuses to look back at me. Just keeping that dull expression on his face, gripping his gun and my arm. Sure, Rourke's an ass but Vinny... Vinny, and Aubrey and Sweetie and Mole, and the rest... they were a surprise.
And I'm supposed to be the good judge of character between Milo and I- that's literally my only fucking worth beside my Brainiac of a brother and- why didn't I see this. God, I'm such an idiot.
I want to cry.
But I don't.
"This is just another treasure hunt for you! You're after the crystal-" Milo snaps, starting to drag himself up onto the shore.
Plucking a page out of his boot, Rourke hold up a journal entry tat I cant see in front of Milo's face- but I've looked through that book nearly as many times as my brother and I would know that paper anyway. And I may not be as intelligent as him, but I can come to my own conclusions... that's the missing page. "Oh, you mean this?" I scowl, shoulders shrugging up in fury.
"The heart of Atlantis." Milo gasps, coming to his own conclusions, everything eh thought he knew and all his suspicions racing through the pages of his brain at a hundred miles per second.
If only I could get out of this grip- I would for sure give Mr Commander sir, a taste of his own medicine.
Or at least two lungful's of ocean water.
"Yeah," Rourke gets up off the heels of his feet and casually strolls back- a devil may care attitude it was from the get-go he personified, but that's only amplified now that he's allowed to be his true, asshole self. "About that, I would've told you sooner, but it was strictly on a need-to-know basis. Ain't that right Y/N?" Fucking Rourke glances back to me, sparing a smirk before turning back to Milo, and shrugging. "And- well, now you know. I had to be sure you and your sibling were one of us. Welcome to the club, son." Milo's eyes slip past Rourke offering his hand to him, to me. Rourke notices, and deeply sighs. "Yeah, they made the cut, too. But they made the wrong choice, which is a darn shame," He calls back, pointedly my way, a defeated tone in his voice. "Thought I'd been grooming 'em better then that this whole time. Guess not." Rourke's attention returns to Milo as a terrible glower completely takes over the usually kind features. The commander talks again, only making it worse. "Oh don't worry- we wont hurt 'em. You're lucky I'm kinda fond of 'em, despite the mean streak and lack a' discipline." Rourke throws a glower back my way this time, scarier then Milo's but not scarier enough to bother me, as I smirk back to him- entirely self satisfied with the hit I managed to land on his jaw when he tried this bullshit on me, earlier. Before Helga grabbed me and dragged me other to Vinny. And threatened me. "Luckiy for them, bullshit like that can be conditioned out. So, Thatch? What'll it be?"
"I'm no mercenary!" Milo spits, unsurprisingly- but my heart sinks as much as it soars with pride. Unless Rourke had been sharing 'alone time', with him too- I doubt Milo'll get the 'mercy' I managed to get away with.
Then suddenly, the princess comes up from the water a bit away from Milo, and a gasp is torn out of me as a 'mercenary', as Milo put it, grabs her hair and drags her viciously right out of the water. My eyes are wide, and I feel absolutely helpless.
She manages to take down 3 of them before a loud, ear piercing BANG rings through the air, taking out the knife in her hand with a killer aim. She's shocked and incapacitated for a moment as she looks to find the bullet came from Rourke- before two guards grab her and hold her down still. And the short moment of reprieve for us dies.
Promptly Rourke returns his attention to Milo, having gotten back his stage. "'Mercenary'. I prefer the term, 'Adventure capitalist'." A growl rumbles from the back of my throat and he but glances at me momentarily, amused but not caring. "Besides, you're the one that got us here. You lead us right to the treasure chest!"
Mile hops out of the water, moving towards him. "You don't know what you're tampering with, Rourke."
"What's to know? Its big, its shiny, its gonna make us all rich." Whether that statement comes from idiocy or just plain lack of concern- it sure does leave a bad taste in your mouth.
"You think its some kind of diamond. I thought it was some kind of battery, but we're both wrong." Milo tries to reason. "Its their life source. That crystal is the only thing keeping these people alive." You take that away, and they'll die!"
As Milo spoke, Rourke started to slip away again; Looking thoughtful. But I know him by now and I know what's going through his head- and its not humanitarianism. Helga slips from my side and I watch her take the page from Rourke, smirking. "Well, that changes things. Helga, what do you think?"
"Knowing that... " My eyes narrow before she can even say it. "I'd double the price." Bitch.
"I was thinking triple." I legitimately struggle against Vinny now, throwing myself forward towards the two but just getting yanked back. Soulless, backstabbing, money hungry, robbing SICKOS.
Guilt suddenly sparks in me, meeting Rourke's eye as he looks over his shoulder to the commotion. He doesn't smirk or say anything, just stares steadily for a good long moment. Maybe trying to say something, but I don't care to decipher the bastard. I look away.
I cant believe I ever liked him.
"Rourke, don't do this!" Milo pleads, throwing himself forward but getting cut off by Vinny, who let go of me in order to get between my brother and Rourke with his big ass gun, earning a venomous look from Milo. Rourke sighs, strolling off and tucking the journal page into the back of his pants.
"Academics. You never want to get your hands dirty. Think about it," He sticks a thumb into the waistband of his pants and turns around. "If you gave back every stolen artefact from a museum, you'd be left with an empty building. We're just providing a necessary service." He doesn't really believe that- he's a bastard, not delusional. "to the archaeological community."
"Not interested." Milo hisses, the glare magnified by his big round spectacles.
Rourke sighs, wandering over to me. "I got to admit, I'm disappointed." He looks away from Milo, pulling me by the chin gently to look at him, but he barely gets to rub the pad of his thumb across my cheek before I snatch my face back away. He chuckles out a huff at me, like I'm cute. "You Thatch kids"- kids?! KIDS!? He sure as hell didn't think that of me when he had his cock in me, the absolute dickhead- "talk a big game about being adventurers, and what was it? Learning? Pft... But you two are idealists, just like your grandfather. Do yourselves some favours, don't be like him. For once, do the smart thing." With that he looks between me, and Milo, wearing matching dirty looks, total death stares, and sighs in defeat. "Agh... I really hate it when negotiations go sour."
Then he clicks his forefinger off his thumb and suddenly a guard throws Kida down to the ground, and pulls a gun on her. My heart sizes up, a gasp tearing from me around the gag in my mouth.
"Lets try this again," Rourke says, somewhat steelier then before and whips out the page to shove in Milo's face, again.
