I'm bored and making a laundry list of nerds no one particularly cared about. GPT is helping me now that I've yelled at it to stop sucking using enough all caps.

Inspired Oulipo in poetry, whose only other reference point I have at the moment is the recently deceased Jacques Roubaud, and his - at once mathematically cryptic and singularly emotionally precise - permutable sonnet collection "epsilon".

But this Roussel guy would take two homophones, and they’d be generative of narrative for his poetry. The example he uses to explain it is in the article. But it's in French. So I'm going to try to produce an American/English equivalent.

Here's an analytic breakdown of his process:

find words that are homophones,

find words that could refer to objects independently involved with either homophone,

construct two sentences exactly identical in respect of all but the one homophone,

there's your point A, and your point B;

the poem is the narrative development from A, considered as the first, to B, considered as the final line.

My artistic impulse - one I'm unsure Roussel himself followed, is to keep doing the same thing palindromically for the 2nd and penultimate line, 3rd and 3rd to last, etc., with substantively different homophones every time.
