Nice to be on the road again. First time going to Sonora and on 49. I almost didn’t make it because I wanted to stop and take photos. But I did stop here and looked up some information. Archie Stevenot Bridge Route 49 Stanislaus River Bridge Melones, California, United States 450 feet high / 137 meters high 550 foot span / 168 meter span 1976 Melones is a former settlement in Calaveras County, California, now submerged beneath a reservoir named New Melones Lake. It lay at an elevation of 955 feet. Melones was founded on the site of a ferry operated from 1848 by John W. Robinson and Stephen Mead.
