Okay, here’s what I want: I want to watch Netflix on my laptop while I’m knitting, and at the same time I want a small row counter app sitting in the corner so I can keep track of what I’m doing.

WHY DOES THIS TURN OUT TO BE A FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE ASK????

One tally counter: Yeah, I’ll work, but I’m full screen and the smallest you can make me is 1/4 of your screen. Hope you didn’t want to see anything you’re watching

Another counter: I’m tiny and unobtrusive, but you have to install a Java Virtual Machine to run me.

Another counter: I’ll run in your browser, but you’ll have to switch browser tabs to add to the count every damned time, so each addition to the count will take about 5 clicks and interrupt your show.

I just want a small box in the corner that can count when I push a button. I don’t want to have to use two separate devices (phone and laptop) to keep track of my count while I’m watching something. I feel like this is a thing I could have easily gotten back in 1998, but now everything is fucking phone apps, and it’s impossible.

Recommendations, @knitblr ?

I’m looking for a dial type row counter made of metal that I can attach to a necklace. I can only find plastic ones but I would much rather metal. There are rings but I have a lot of swelling in my hands that varies day to day so I’m trying to steer clear of rings if possible. Worse comes to worst I get a ring type and thread a necklace through it but I would rather not. So yes, any recommendations for metal dial row counters? Or stores on like etsy or wherever that I can make a request like that?

Got tired of counting and recounting rows to remember where I was up to. I’ve used a digital finger one, and the Pony twist knitting ones before but they’re heavy or frustrating since I couldn’t leave it attached or awkward to use.

So I printed a whole bunch of 20x12mm numbered tags, cut them out, punch a tiny hole in each, laminated then cut and punched again. And now I have a count down row counter I guess.

Current project has 45 rows so I put 1-45 on there and then put the hinged ring through so that the project would hold the right place. So far so good. It’s not super heavy and it’s easyish to use but I guess I’ll know once I’ve used it a bit more.

Got myself this row counter because it's the only one we have at work (where I get an employee discount) that looked like it would work well with knitting in the round. I have never used a row counter before and I am a little skeptical. When you adjust the single digits on this counter, it turns the bit that goes around your needle, and it's not hard to turn, so I'm worried I'm going to accidentally change the count when I pull my work out of my knitting bag or something. Anyway, I'm going to try it out on my swatch and see what I think.

My row counter. It’s basically just a piece of wire and 15 colourful beads. I push each bead over the loop and onto the other side when I’ve finished a row. You know when you’re crocheting and you have to stop, because something else is more important, and when you come back, you’ve forgotten where you were? Well this row counter has helped me so many times! It’s also very easy to make and personally, I think the colours are beautiful. (I got the idea from the blog catknitsalot) 😃💚🙈

Never thought I'd see the day when I understood the need for row counters when paper and pen would suffice. Ha, hello sock knitting!
