Like the problem with buying Harry Potter merch is that Rowling uses that money to fund bigoted movements, not that "the Harry Potter books suck". Like good on you if you never liked Harry Potter, but the literary quality of the Harry Potter books is completely irrelevant to why we shouldn't buy the merch
like fuck rowling, but as a trans person it has been sort of amazing to see the public backlash against her. bc the thing is, just a few years ago she could have gotten away with saying all those things. less than a decade ago she could have made all those tweets with only very minor public outcry.
I've seen public attitudes towards trans people change so much in the last few years, sometimes it's such a relief I could cry. the tide has shifted against blatant transphobia being accepted & respected as a legitimate stance in liberal public spaces. it finally generates controversy. Finally.
transphobia is still very much everywhere and the battle is nowhere near over, but its veneer of respectibility has been shattered. to the point that even formerly beloved public figures can't get away with saying some of the shit they could have 5-10 years ago. and that's good. it's slow and bloody and hard-won progress, but it is progress goddammit, and I'm gonna celebrate it tooth and claw.
i think what a lot of people mean when they say "the harry potter books suck" is that as well as jk rowling being an awful individual, her beliefs are woven into the book to the point where you cant really do any of the "separate the art from the artist" thing. plenty of all kinds of bigotry in them as well
And I'm not saying that her personal views haven't affected the books negatively, or that they are objectively great, just that making this more about the books themselves being bad than Rowling using the franchise for bad seems like a weird and unnecessary move to me
After years of thinking I would never be able to read a physical book again, tonight I finished the last Harry Potter Book and proved myself wrong. (I am well aware of what kind of person J.K Rowling is, and I only chose the Harry Potter series because it was already on my shelf - I bought them years before the truth came out - and because they seemed like a good choice considering that it's an easily readable series I used to love. I have not and have no plans of contributing to Rowling economically after I realized what kind of person she is. But Rowling aside, this was a giant win for me and I wanted to share it with you.)

I've had far too little exposure to werewolves to be able to answer this question. The only ones I can even think of on the spot are Remus Lupin from Harry Potter (who I admittedly really liked but whom J.K Rowling extinguished my desire to gush about) and Jacob Black from Twilight (who is better than Edward but in that series the bar is on the floor, so that really doesn't say much).
I came here for some positive vibes, only to be bombarded with political bs over a video game. As a someone of Jewish lineage, I think it’s kind of ridiculous. Also I know many Jewish people who have played the game and don’t find it antisemitic. There’s worse things going on in this world than a dumb game.

I wasn't posting Harry Potter fan shit and I am firm in being against Rowling and her bigotry. What I am choosing not to do is get personally involved in the discourse surrounding the video game. I don't think my blog is the right place for that discourse considering that I am a cis gentile. But that doesn't mean I'm not comfortable taking a firm stance against Rowling and her views.

Yeah I have decided I won't be responding to anymore asks about Hogwarts Legacy and the discourse surrounding it, because as a cis gentile, I just really don't think my opinions are relevant. And I think there are better places for that discussion than my tumblr
