what the australian bureau of stats is doing for the 2016 census, is they’re retaining the names and addresses of people who complete the census. names and addresses will be stored in the abs building on a closed system. it won’t be connected to the internet. it won’t be hackable. and the names and addresses will not be released to anyone outside the abs. it’s still strictly private information
this article may have been what got you worried, but there’s actually zero risk of a breach of privacy unless someone in the building decides to sell information. overall, this new change won’t actually affect you at all, the information will not be released to the public, companies, or other government agencies.
