Roy Barnes endorses Jon Ossoff
I just want to point out that Roy Barnes was the last Democratic governor of Georgia. He tried to take the Confederate flag out of the Georgia state flag in 2001 and lost to a Republican in 2002. Our flag still sucks, but at least it doesn’t have a visible racist hate symbol on it anymore, and that’s largely thanks to Roy Barnes.
March 22, 2017 - Former Georgia Governor Endorses Jon Ossoff for Congress
MARIETTA, GA — Today, Georgia’s 80th Governor Roy Barnes endorsed Jon Ossoff, Democratic candidate for Congress in Georgia’s Sixth District.
“Jon has been a refreshing breath of air in an otherwise stale environment of politics,” said Barnes. “He’s united us as Democrats here in Georgia and around the nation. Jon has a positive message about growing metro Atlanta’s economy into a high-tech hub to ensure we are creating the new jobs of the new economy. He we also put a laser focus on our transportation issues and work to protect us against threats to our civil rights and national security. He doesn’t just talk about problems, he offers solutions. I believe he will be a very effective member of Congress.”
“It’s an honor to have Gov. Barnes’ support,” Ossoff said. “Gov. Barnes has distinguished himself as a true statesman whose legacy is standing up for Georgia’s economic development and taking courageous moral stands. One of the things I’ve learned from Gov. Barnes is how important it is to focus on our community’s economic development, and what we can do to attract jobs and investment in high tech, bio tech and research sectors so we can become the Silicon Valley of the South.”
Barnes’ endorsement adds to Ossoff’s growing list of supporters, which includes U.S. Rep. John Lewis and House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams.
Some opponents of the new voting law plan to boycott Georgia-based companies and sporting events.
