first discovered this manga sometime in 2024 or 2025 because roya roach and the amazing art (mostly roya roach) caught my eye. after thoroughly getting attached to roya roach and later diganazal, i finally got to reading Versus. i was up at ungodly times of the night gushing over the art on every page for minutes.
what i really like about Versus is its memorable character designs, particularly roya and diganazal (biased). i like how diganazal's arms are super long like an actual monkey and how her big irises also give off the sort of illusion that she's got the same large irises that monkeys have as well. it might be weird of me to say this but i also like how roya's got her underwear on the roach abdomen that peeks out from under her skirt rather than having no abdomen at all or having the underwear be right between her legs where humans have it. fun anatomically accurate details!!!
only problem i have with Versus is how often it introduces a whole ton of characters only to kill them off a chapter or two later. having so many characters, the important screentime needed to develop each of them is spread thin across the large cast and takes away key moments for characters who need it, making it difficult to care when some of them die. they sort of lack real impact on the story. i wish we could've seen more of characters like riam, roya, and diganazal (totally not because theyre my favorites) before they were just sent to their deaths.
i had to take a break when diganazal was being introduced knowing her and roya's fates 💔💔💔
