#DavidPearce beat some 6,000 other entrants to design the unique and supposedly counterfeit-proof coin aged 15. More than 6,000 people entered a #RoyalMintcompetition to design the new coin in 2015. But it was David, then 15 and studying at Queen Mary's Grammar School in Walsall, who was surprised by a phone call from the former Chancellor telling him he had won. David told the #Telegraph he was called out of class to the headteacher's office - because #GeorgeOsborne wanted a chat. And he only completed his drawing on the day of the deadline - sending his entry off with just two hours to spare. The 17-year-old's striking design features the four well-known symbols of the UK - a #rose, #leek, #thistle and #shamrock, emerging from a #RoyalCoronet. (at Port Harcourt)
