“am i? i daresay it’s you, sybil. you’re the actual nurse around here.” but edith smiles at her nonetheless, taking it as a compliment. edith has never been as skeptical as her grandmother was about sybil’s decision to be a working woman, but she’s never quite appreciated until she was working herself. helping out with the wounded soldiers was miles different from her little job at the farm and felt much more fulfilling. even more so now, with a handful of the recovered soldiers crediting her specifically for keeping their spirits up during their recovery. edith couldn’t begin to explain how good it felt to be appreciated. “but thank you. that means a lot to hear, truly.”
