Review: Billy Gibbons and the BFG’s - “Treat Her Right”

Sporting a fresh backing band, the BFG’s, and a new Latin-tinged sound, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons is preparing to issue his first solo album.

The lead single is cover of Roy Head’s 1965 hit “Treat Her Right.” What it lacks in originality, it makes up for in zest.

A taut two minutes and change, “Treat Her Right” features ample percussion and bears an uncanny resemblance to the theme from “Sex in the City,” with a hint of Junior Wells’ “Messin’ with the Kid” on the side.

“Treat Her Right” is to appear on Gibbons and the BFG’s’ Perfectamundo LP, which is slated for release Oct. 23.
