This is more out of curiousity but I noticed RP'rs tend to either go with two naming styles. One naming style is something related to a character and reflect the characteristics (Lets say a character who dreams of writing their own book. Their username would be "dreamingofscribes"). The 2nd is a username like devaaatus or some random words. Why is that some go with the 2nd?
Is that really a random word though? Devaaatus, surprisingly for being a random suggestion with no account attached, can actually be broken down into meanings. It’s mixed “deva” meaning a deity or god, and “atus” which as a suffix which adapts the first word to be “__-like”. So Devaaatus, although it has an extra a, could be read as a mixed language (squishing Sanskrit and Proto-Indo-European together violently against all reason) to form “God-like”. I’d joke that the extra a is to make it look like screaming. So I’d use it to mean “God-like Screaming” especially for a character with ties to the Sanskrit language. A nice, albeit a hell of a stretch to get to, name.Sometimes the random word to you, is just a really far reaching mix of words with somewhat personal meaning to the RPer, because everybody on this ding-dang website has like 40 blogs and perfect usernames can be limited. They may be another language. They may be an inside joke. They might be someone who just thought it was neat. I can’t really speak for anyone personally, just that people can be wildly creative when you let them loose onto the interwebs.
Maybe it’s a corrupted Latin form of a specific herb which has the magical association with something their name means. Let’s say… John. John’s a good random name. It means something to do with God and Favor. Cool. So what herb do I use to nab favor? Chicory, it’s used to gain favor from great people by rubbing the juice into your skin. Cool, what’s Chicory’s Latin name? Cichorium intybus. Spooky. Kikhṓrion or intybus works fine by itself. So maybe if I have a character named John, I’ll get the username intybus for kicks. No one will know one fucking thing about why I did it, but I will. That’s what matters. I’m witty.Basically once again, no clue. Fads are fads. This is a website where we laugh at goats licking salt off rocks. We’re kind of far gone to be trying to figure out why anyone does anything, unless we ask the individuals themselves.
