The folks responsible for the RPGresearch.com and RPGtheraputics need urgent financial help to make rent by the end of the month for their community center. These are non-profit organizations responsible for (among other things) training game masters/designers, educators, and therapists to run RPGs in professional capacities to accomplish bespoke & practical goals for their clients. I interviewed their CEO Hawke Robinson last year and he’s an all around great guy to network with and I can’t recommend them enough. Their work caters to everyone from 2 year old autistic non-verbal children all the way up to senior citizens pushing 80 and beyond. If you can donate any amount helps but just boosting this or spreading the word amongst gaming/ designer groups is also a great way to help.

Withers, Why?

On first playthrough (we're not finished yet but ooh we gettin' close), Seranus (my Tav) has developed a healthy respect for Withers.

My second playthrough, I brought my chaotic neutral narcissistic dark elf Calythise (who I've played in tabletop campaigns) into the story, and he's neither here nor there about Withers. Withers has declared his use, and is suitably spooky but not a threat.

Now I've started one with more of an actual self-insert Tav, which I'm still not incredibly sure about. I was tempted to make them a Cleric, because I play clerics a looootttttt in other games.

But I went Bard instead, because I'm actually an artist and a writer and play instruments (kind of) and whatever; very Renaissance; you get the picture. Not measurably successful at really any of it. "Jack of all trades, master of none," you know?

So, as self-insert Tav, I went to fetch Withers this morning.

When he asks "What is the value of a life?"

a.) I'd forgotten that his reason for asking was "curiosity" which... is a color all its own.

b.) I noticed there was a Bard answer. Something like: "Its worth is determined by what makes it into legend."

Oof, yeah. I mean. Yeah. That's about how I feel about that.

Not how I want to feel about that, but it seems accurate. And therein lay the crux.

Withers responds approximately: "The value of a life and the manner in which it was lived are not the same equation."

It hit me right in the gut.

So I've been thinking about that for hours, now, and getting very existential about it, and Withers, and...

I guess I might be going Cleric after all.
