Think I'm overdue an intro, so here I go...

Hi, I'm a virago writer with ADHD and no writing motivation, so the closest thing I have to a hyperfixation now is Asian dramas.

I'm new to Tumblr, so if I mess up in some way, blame that. I only ever experienced Tumblr second-hand from pinterest 💀

I moved on to Asian dramas after discovering The Romance of Tiger and Rose back in 2022 on r/rolereversal, and I've never gone back. Despite their shortcomings, I find that Asian dramas give me more RR representation than Western media, so I'll be staying here for the time being.

Oftentimes, I've been disappointed with RR recommendations being mediocre to infuriating representation (and not at all what I was looking for), so I started keeping notes on all the RR dramas I watched over in MDL (MyDramaList) in the hopes of saving someone from the disappointment. I've since accumulated over 100 RR titles that I'll be posting in this blog + all the new ones I watch in between.

I'll keep info about myself brief because it's kinda irrelevant. Might talk more on my main blog, but for now, I just wanted to introduce myself ^^

I know, the name is quite deceiving (lol), it's about Role Reversal and Het Gender Nonconforming media of any kind. As I mentioned earlier, I'm mostly focused on Asian dramas at the moment, but I'm branching off and have a backlog of non-Asian media to include too.

First things first, if you somehow stumbled upon this by accident, let me explain what "RR" even is.

RR is an abbreviation of the term "Role Reversal" or what some call "Gender Role Reversal". This refers to a dynamic where the traditional F/M roles are reversed, most commonly explored in a romantic context, but platonic or thematic RR exists, too. These dynamics can vary in what kind and to what degree. In such dynamics, women take on the (more) masculine and dominant role in the relationship, while men take on the (more) feminine and submissive role in the relationship. RR falls under the umbrella term "HetGNC" (Heterosexual Gender Nonconformity), which refers to cishet individuals/dynamics that don't conform to traditional gender roles.

RR varies a lot in its level of reversal. Literal tropes like femboy x mascgirl (or now better described as mollis x virago) are RR, but so are more subtle ones like flirty woman x shy man, depending on context. It also depends a lot on when the stories were created (older media tends to be less direct about RR) as well as when they take place (realistic historical media tend to be more subtle with the RR). 

For the most part, I'll include anything that deviates from the traditional M/F dynamics.

That basically is...

Femdom - Almost exclusively female-gaze femdom. You know the type.

Role Reversal of any kind.

Heterosexual gender nonconformity - Lots of overlap with RR but not strictly speaking. Think fem x fem or masc x masc type of couples, etc. (I tend to highlight less masc x masc couples because of the sheer plethora of women crossdressing in media, especially Asian dramas. I'll only highlight these if they have RR too or if they committed to actually delivering a mascgirl/virago character).

Platonic RR/HetGNC / Trope Reversal? Not sure what to call this yet, but think: protective older sisters, stay-at-home fathers, female mentor/male apprentice, etc (usually included only if there are other RR elements present too. Generally won't make posts for this alone unless it's very important to the story).

I try to mostly just share what I thought was or wasn't RR in my recommendation posts, because I grew fairly tired of getting RR recommendations only for it to be "she chases him first", which, sure, is refreshing, but it's not really RR.
