I think we should get a little weirder scarier with Valerie's suit.

Like, specifically, Blue Beetle (2023) transformation sequence weird. Peter Parker Venom storyline weird. Ichigo Kurosaki Vizard power arc weird. Prey (2017) Typhon abilities weird.

Make it a lil' gross, a lil' scary, make Val feel like something is Wrong™️ when she puts it on for the first time—but also powerful, make her feel like she's not quite in control, make her question if her goals are really worth putting it on, but also make her keep returning to it because as much as it scares her it also thrills her. She doesn't truly know how close to death she really is each time she wears it but it doesn't matter because she can feel it. She can feel that each time she wears it a little bit more of her is changed, further from what she started as, closer to what she was supposed to be fighting against.

I need her to be scary, I need her to be conflicted, I need her to be so full of love that it only makes her anger sting all the more—that it only makes what the suit is doing to her that much more terrifying.

Okay, so finally getting around to answering this today because reasons. You've had to listen to me screaming about this fic pretty much non-stop for the last two months, but on the plus side I don't think I've written so much in such a short space of time in years, possibly ever. Renegades Title Here is what happens when I watch a movie from before I was born and go on ao3 to find only 12 fics for it. The fics are great, don't get me wrong, and they literally all have the ship I went specifically to find, but I need more. So, I am writing more. Look, the movie ends with Buster basically inviting Hank back to his motel room. My fic is: Hank goes to the motel room (and nothing happens because these blorbos are not the sort to make things easy for themselves) and then they get dragged into a murder mystery and I put them through Suffering for a bit because it is fun (for me anyway, Buster is currently bleeding). Anyway, here is a snippet because it's also WIP Wednesday so why not.

It hurt just as much as the last time he'd been shot, more even. Buster slumped against the wall, clutching his shoulder and trying to will the dancing spots of color out of his vision. Another pair of hands covered his, and Buster looked up to see Hank crouched beside him, a mixture of concern and disbelief on his face.

"'m fine," Buster said, which was stupid because Hank had eyes. "You need to-"

But Buster was interrupted by yet more bullets—because apparently Carlson was going to use everything he had, plus Weber's gun while he was at it—one of which came through the door uncomfortably close to his head.

Hank was on his feet in an instant, ripping the chair from where it was braced and flinging it out through the ruined door into the hallway in front of him almost faster than Buster's eyes could track.
