Today is the birthday of my dear friend who introduced me to both French Revolution and Yugioh 5Ds. She’s one of the smartest and nicest people I’ve ever known, from when we became best friends 14 years ago as kids until now. My life would be utterly different, much less fun and far less purposeful without her.
If you've ever enjoyed any of my frev or 5Ds related art, I invite you to join me in celebrating her existence in this world for a brief moment!
This wonderfully weird 5Ds x frev au is one of her many brilliant ideas. I’ve wanted to portray it for a very long time. It seems so challenging, and I kept putting it off. But once I started this drawing, it was actually so smooth and fun, finding different creative ways to alter their outfits to match frev fashion while keeping their character styles.
I’ve been always curious how many people are into both things like us? I know some people are into both frev and yugioh, but frev and 5Ds specifically? Guess we'll find out! XD
Okay, I know that s2 of Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds was a big drop-off in quality, but I *do* think a second season was necessary.
🛠️ Yusei fought for a better, more equal city, and now he needs to see it happen—by supporting his neighbors and building up strong communities.
💪 Jack needs to figure out who he is now. After ditching the satellite, and then getting ditched by Godwin, he doesn't have any home or direction. He's gotta figure out where he fits in, and who his people are.
🥀 Akiza needs to prove—to herself—that she can be a civilian. At this point, she's only barely convinced that she can atone for Arcadia. She needs to keep putting one foot in front of the other, to show herself that she isn't broken.
🧚 Leo and Luna need to have a happy childhood for like, 5 seconds
(Crow doesn't need anything in season 2, he's already perfect)
-Am I the only one who finds the Fortune Cup kinda forgettable? I was mostly excited for the Dark Signers arc afterward.
-Trudge has one of the best character arcs in the show. He went from being a bully who abused his power to helping the main cast stop various threats in the city. The two duels in the beginning with Yusei got him to be humbled about how he treats others. It's a shame we didn't get a reference duel monsters or to his short relations with Yugi.
-Crow is an okay character. As a duelist, he's skilled and has one of the best duels in the show between him and Dark Signer Gregor. The downside? He just felt shoved in to the plot, as if his character arc was kinda over and done with from the beginning.
-They didn't need to retcon Blackwing Dragon into the Crimson Dragon myth. It wasn't necessary, and it only led to more questions than answers.
-Speaking of Retcons, Carly and Jack's relationship is just nonexistent in the second season onward. They made Carly into more of a fangirl than she already was in season 1. It's even bigger because the whole point of their relationship isn't just because of romance but because Carly helps Jack regain his confidence for him to change for the better. WE WERE ROBBED.
-I will not forgive the English dub adaptation for skipping over the Red Nova Dragon arc.
-Nor will I ever forgive the dub for skipping over the Team Taiyou duel.
-Yusei's english dub helps give him more character in terms of personality. His Japanese dub has a lot of raw emotion and gusto, but it's missing something in that voice range that distinguishes his personality a lot more.
-Junk Warrior deserves an alternate evolution, just like Stardust Dragon.
-Speaking of Junk Warrior, I love the design and theme behind the monster. The scarf goes so hard in the design it DESPERATELY needs alternate forms in the future.
-5Ds was the start of the master duel era theming focusing on Sci-Fi, rather than the supernatural elements that make up the majority of Yu-Gi-Oh's identity. Is the supernatural theming still a part of Yu-Gi-Oh's core creation? Absolutely, and that will never change. However, I'm starting to get tired of the sci-fi elements and interdimensional storylines since we had them for FIVE WHOLE SHOWS IN TOTAL.
-Card games on motorcycles is still a funny meme
-Team Ragnorok deserves a spin-off series. They make great rivals to team 5ds. PLEASE. I NEED THIS.
-Luna and Leo deserve better. Their relevance in the anime feels so lackluster. It's shocking how much the anime and the writing push them to the sidelines without a proper end to their narrative.
-Z-ONE should have been an alternate future version of Yusei. I don't care. It makes sense! His goals are in such contrast to Z-ONE's. A broken man who wants to change the future for the better, until he's broken down, realizing his sacrifice was in vain, not knowing if everything he's done up to that point is worth saving. I enjoy stories where the protagonist has to fight an alternate version of themselves. It's an internal conflict of them facing the worst part of themselves.
-Akiza deserves her roses. That's it.
-Let us be honest. You cry every time you see a clip of Bruno's death and can't stop sobbing. I should know. I couldn't stop sobbing either.
