"You didn't heed my last wish," he whispered and closed his eyes in a futile attempt to hold back the ever-threatening tears. He was pretty sure he had never been meant to be as emotional as he was, let alone someone who cried near constantly in the presence of the person he loved, but this was what he had become and he didn't want it to be any different.
"I'm happy now," Ling Jiushi replied. He sounded drowsy but still alert while his body stayed relaxed in Ruan Lanzhu's arms. He swallowed hard and tightened his hold to keep Ling Jiushi from ever leaving his side again. "That's what you wanted, isn't it? I kept my promise."
