"koby! though i know you can take care of yourself, you're strong and fight well, know that i'm here for you if you need any help." he nodded with a sharp breath out of his nose, folding his arms against his chest.

     “Oh! L-Luffy-san...!” 

     Genuinely rendered speechless by the other’s affirmation, Koby just found himself staring at the pirate for a prolonged moment, heart racing. Luffy acknowledged his strength...!! More than that, he gave his word of support no matter what, and if there was anything that he understood about the other was that he always kept his word to his friends. Lower lip quivered; Koby had to work even harder to quash any tears, so he smiled instead at the serious demeanor the other had adopted. Giving a nod, the young Marine felt a renewed surge of affection, of hope, of excitement, of gratitude.

     “Of course!! Thank you, Luffy-san!’

It is not because of his sandals (which are cute) or the scar on his chest (which is also cute). He drowns her mind, and that is enough to conclude he is not at all cute. At another time she would have snorted at the idea this new person can rival Barry, but with the throb on her temples dancing itself into a headache, she settles with ignoring. 

There is something she needs to do, after all. 

“Hello,” she says, her stride slow, steady, and utterly reluctant. “Where did you purchase your hat?”

It’s a cute hat. Its owner, however, is clearly not.

     Warm fingers wrap around her captain’s hands and she brings them to her face, eyes closed as she brushes soft lips across his scarred knuckles. If only there was a way that he could know just how much he meant to her. He was the sun and and she basking in his rays after years lost in night. In the end, as she stood there, the normally clever archaeologist could come up with nothing.
