Day 4 | One Word Title
Autistic protagonist in a mystery/thriller? Sold!
- Hay cosas peores que morirse. - ¿Ah, sí? - Claro, Vivir de mala manera.
Belinda Bauer ( Morir no es tan fácil )
Rubbernecker - Belinda Bauer
In brief: An autistic anatomy student on a quest for understanding. An accident victim in a coma. A vapid nurse. A teaching cadaver. They’re all connected, but how?
Thoughts: This was a very pleasant surprise for me and one of the few books so far this year I’ve struggled to encapsulate because so much of the story and mood hinges on connections and parallels between the story lines. It makes for a very interestingly constructed thriller but one that’s hard to describe without spoiling the experience. Suffice to say, it gets two thumbs firmly up on everything and even when I knew where something or other was going, I wasn’t put off because I wanted to see how Bauer got me there.
I was so close to finishing when I got off the bus today, I figured I might as well keep going. (Now I have to work out what to read next.)
