I agree they’re taking secrecy to a whole new level. The ‘previews’ in Doctor Who Magazine in particular have become pointless. I think this is something the production team might re-think in their second season. It reminds me of when Moffat kept Davros in The Magician’s Apprentice secret and then later said he regretted not getting the publicity out of it that he could have.
I think there were times the Moffat era took it too far. For instance, I remember that all but the ending of The Snowmen seemed to be apparent from promotional material before it aired... I do think keeping more things under wraps would have been a good approach, but I also get why you would want to share major spoilers on your own terms.
The Chibnall approach to this means that while some episodes do stand out (Rosa and the upcoming Demons of Punjab!) I wouldn’t even know what to get excited about for Arachnids or next week’s episode, where the synopsis boils down to “it’s in space and there’s a monster”. Oh well, I’ll be watching either way, so I can’t say that it doesn’t work at all!
