Life as a singer at the height of ones career - for what most people call the most elegant woman in the city - was quite the experience. But even with all the money and material things any girl could only ever dream of having, this life wasn’t always as pleasant as most people imagined it to be. It wasn’t quite an unusual occurrence for older men to sneak around and invade her privacy, sometimes going as far as to even heckle her for rejecting their offers. Becoming a widely recognized face on the street certainly came with a cost, and searching for someone to call a friend or partner who wasn’t after her fame and fortune was becoming a hopeless endeavor.
Yet, it was a single performance quite a few months back where everything seemed to take a turn for the better, even if by quite strange means. Through the middle of a performance, she had spotted a lone woman sitting at the very back of the venue, far away from the crowd as possible, but gazed up at her with such a gentle fondness in her eyes, that Sapphire had developed this thrilling fascination for her presence as well.
Standing out from the crowd was one way to put it, but in a better term, she was undeniably unique compared to all the unfavorable, typical men in her direct line of sight. The way this mysterious woman would look at her made her heart flutter; and while she would sing her songs, she would smile more often for her and only in her direction. For someone with such beautiful curly red hair and a peculiar taste for black suits, Sapphire had suddenly become infatuated.
After keeping up this routine with this beautiful stranger for weeks, they had established this rather secretive, understanding bond through brief stares from afar, several warm smiles, and words expressed through her lyrics; but it was wonderful moments like those that this infatuation for her begun to change, and before she knew it, she had fallen for a woman whose name she didn’t even know.
Neatly manicured nails drummed against the glass of a champagne flute, palms sweaty as the woman in the vanity mirror repetitively looked herself over again for the hundredth time, making sure that her appearance was pin perfect for tonight’s show. She was going to be there, of course she would be. This was by far the largest venue she had ever performed at in her entire career, and tonight absolutely had to be a night to remember.
“Sapphire, you’re on in five!” A woman’s voice cut in, causing an exhilarated exhale to slip past her lips. It’s time.
Hastily spritzing perfume two times to both sides of her neck and triple checking her hair and makeup in the illuminated mirror, she finally rose from her ornate vanity and made her presence known by the noisy click of her heels against the marble platform of the stage. Positioning herself behind the blue velvet curtains, she gave a kind smile to the multiple band members preparing to perform along with her.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” A masculine voice on the other side of the curtain spoke with vigor in his words, earning a respectful silence from the bustling crowd. This was it.
“Please welcome to the stage, our beautiful special guest singer, Sapphire.”
The populous crowd was quick to whistle and applaud, among other noises that seemed as if people were quickly shuffling around the dining chairs before the show started, likely in the chance that some of the men would get an opportunity to get up close to her. As the lounge lights dimmed and the spotlight rose, the band members initiated their chords, and the curtains rose.
Platinum blonde hair graciously fell over a slender shoulder, the glittering silver of her dress glistening beautifully under the spotlight. The luxurious fabric of her gown accentuated her natural curves in all the right places - of course, for the intention of impressing her and only her.
Casually positioning her hands to rest atop her hips, she sauntered across the marble floor, giving a bright smile down at the crowd just for show. Even while she sang, her eyes scanned the audience looking for that one person she chose this particular song in the first place for. It had to be the perfect plan.
“I’ve got a crush on you, sweetie pie
All the day and night-time hear me sigh
I never had the least notion,
That I could fall with so much emotion”
Her voice had nearly faltered near the end of the verse, for the second she nearly looked away, there she was, far in the back with a drink clutched in her hand and her eyes directly on her. It was only then could a genuine smile form across her lips, her heart fluttering the moment they accidentally made eye contact. It was hard to look away.
“Could you coo, could you care
For a cunning cottage we could share”
The world will pardon my mush
Cause I’ve got a crush, baby, on you”
Carefully stepping off of the stage with the assistance of a few men, she watched with great amusement as the audience obediently made a path for her, a majority of the men around her whistling as she gracefully sauntered past them, pretending to be interested in them by sliding her hands across their shoulders, while at the same time, trying all she could not to take her eyes off of the woman she waited so long to get the perfect chance to finally approach, one way or another.
“I’ve got a crush on you, sweetie pie
All the day and night-time hear me sigh”
She settles a delicate hand atop her broad shoulder, circling around from behind and coating her words with a sweetness the audience can only think is from the song itself.
“The world will pardon my mush
Cause I’ve got a crush...”
She took the opportunity to lean in close to her, positioning her hand to just barely touch the silky curls of her thick hair.
“Baby, on you.” She slowly drew backwards during the perfect-pitched execution of her last extended note, fingers gliding smoothly across the curvature of her face as light as a feather, and just like that, it was over.
Taking in the sound of the nearest audience members jokingly laughing around her at what they assumed was nothing but an act for this woman, she gracefully sauntered back to the stage with one of her most warmest smiles, letting the audience stare and noisily cheer for her, and watching as the curtain finally fell behind her. If only they knew.
Once out of view from everyone, she stole a glance back at the curtain, despite it completely obstructing her view. But she knew who was still behind there, and she wanted so much more than just this.
Games were supposed to be fun, and frankly, that was the opposite of fun. She’s more concerned about Ruby, though. After all, she wasn’t the one who had gotten enraged to the point where it had broken the fusion. It’s without thought that she rests a hand on the other gem’s shoulder.
