The main problem with the Yang scene is that because Ruby has a power that theoretically lets her move at whatever speed she wants, she could have saved Yang and been back in the fight in no time flat.

What defenders of the moment fail to realize is that because of the fact that Ruby can break herself down to her atoms or whatever, she can technically go at the speed of light. Admittedly, nobody in the show has that kind of reaction speed, but the fact of the matter is that the writers gave Ruby light speed, and didn’t let her use it.

The issues with that scene are all tied to how they decided to describe Ruby’s semblance.

And I find it suspicious that none of them mention how Weiss fails to even try to save Yang.

I think I sent an ask like this to someone else too, but I feel that the writers thought of the idea of Yang sacrificing herself to save Ruby before ironing out the details surrounding it.

I feel like there are 4 major problems with that moment.

1: Neither Weiss or Ruby even tried to help Yang. I can kinda excuse Ruby, since she was in the middle of a fight, but when you give her a physics-breaking semblance, the writers kinda lost some excuses. Weiss doesn’t even try!

2: Yang running out of aura was dumb since we see Ren running out of aura for the… what?- Seventh time that in-universe day? Like… If Ren’s at full aura, then shouldn’t Yang also be at full?

3: We saw Maria tossing around Neo like a ragdoll earlier. You’re telling me that that elderly lady with cybernetic eyes can do that to Neo, but Yang can’t land a hit when Neo’s distracted in trying to kill Ruby?

4: Yang’s decision-making process was stupid here. Unlike Volume 3, where Blake was stabbed and vulnerable to splash damage, Ruby is holding her own against Cinder and is actively fighting, and therefore should have aura. So Yang could have tried to engage Neo instead of just taking the hit. Admittedly, this is Yang, so taking the hit isn’t out of character for her, but not engaging is also just as dumb! Is this what Tai’s whole “Your soul is a temper tantrum” thing led to? Yang deciding to just take a hit instead of fight? Which is what his ‘criticisms’ were all about correcting???

I don't think the writers thought through the implications of ruby being able to break herself down into her base molecules, if thats true ruby would be able to phase through things wouldn't she? Also if she can break down people along with her she'd also be able to break down objects like doors etc.. Also what if she puts herself together wrong? If she's remaking her body each time couldn't she fully change how she looks? like theirs a lot of implications with this now

I think it’s really basic and that she can’t go through solid objects.

Other than that, yeah… The writers… really didn’t think this through.

On the plus side, it helps explain things for when she gets inevitably bodied come her DEATH BATTLE with Maka.

Does Ruby still talk to her team ? It feels like she hasn't spared a kind word for any of them in a while

She does it off-screen obviously. The writers have to tease a relationship with Oscar.

The show couldn’t possibly exist without the Ruby/Oscar relationship.

Ruby: Looks sad, doesn’t do much. Nora: Has literally become the MC this season, actually calling out bull crap. Wait, who’s the main character again? I love Nora getting more development...but Ruby? Could you? Do something?

I had some snarky remark about how little Ruby ever does, but really… It’s just kinda a downer.

So I get that Ruby (and by extension, her team) don’t trust Ironwood because he’s doing nothing to actually help Mantle at best (and at worst, he’s exasperating the problem), along with all the other stuff he’s pulled that hurt them personally, but maybe they should tell him that Salem’s immortal so that the ensuing rally against the grimm queen doesn’t result in everyone throwing their bodies at her like what ozpin was doing the whole time.

Bright side: I now have an additional subject for a Done dirty post. So, there’s that.

Ruby would be more interesting if she actually did stuff instead of give speeches all the time.

Yeah, speeches are good and all, but if they don’t establish to the audience why they should be there impressed by a speech (like, say, defeating half an army by yourself (*coughcoughCaptainAmerica*)), then the audience won’t be interested by what’s being said.

In volume 6, Ruby went on about how far they got without help from adults… which doesn’t work because of

A: they’re literally standing in an adults’ house.

And B: they wouldn’t even know the mission at hand without adults.

It would be more accurate to say that they got that far without Qrow’s help in particular, but Ruby specified adults in general. Because the only thing Qrow did was say where to go. But Ruby was going to do that anyways because Cinder had mentioned that she was from Mistral. You could make the argument that he saved Ruby, but considering that he was using her as bait… I don’t think it should count.

TL;DR Ruby should have things to do, not things to say.
