Since her birthday is very soon, here’s a basic preview of June’s life pre-FNV;
She doesn’t know a lot about her family, she was raised in a small town in Wyoming where she was raised communally as it seems she was seperate from her actual family. As a child she was always very disconnected from them and always loved wandering and exploring the local sagebrush regions. When she turned eighteen she left to wander further from home and go towards NCR territory. She heard the land was pretty out there. She tended to do odd-jobs to keep going, but this was mainly scavenging and selling scrap.
Eventually she got drawn towards the redwoods and was absolutely enchanted by them. Their immense size gave her a more internalized sense of her place in the world. She ended up becoming a courier from there, usually hopping around between different courier groups as she slowly rotated around the west of America.
Later on she did deliver the package to the Divide and it’s very important to note she does remember delivering it come Lonesome Road. It’s the crux of why she goes into the Divide with what would be her current position in the first place. She wants to relieve the guilt of what she did. She believes a lot in the placement of people’s actions in the worlds and their historical significance (as opposed to my sole survivor who leans more into the idea that real history is impossible to access) and she wants to make sure the actions she takes mean something. Every action she takes is very important to her. She isn’t prepared to actually meet Ulysses and he’s not what she expects, which means she actually takes a lot of time wandering the Divide to figure out what to say to him at their confrontation.
When she’s 32 she gets pregnant, I am completely omitting the father on purpose as I find pregnancy can often heavily warp the way people view the pregnant person— June is the character here first and foremost above all else. She goes to do courier work in the Mojave because she feels the roads there are more calm & less dangerous than other areas. She also knows New Vegas and loves it dearly, she finds it freeing and feels there’s something inherently human about it. Maybe it’s not where she wants to raise whatever children she has, but it’s not the worst place to give birth & out of all places to give birth it’s not the worst.
And of course, she gets shot by Benny and is forced to balance her morales accordingly and is thrust head-first into choosing the fate of the Mojave.
